With the development of industrialization and high consumption of natural resources, the relationship between man and nature has become an important challenge.Improving air quality and building an environmentally friendly society have become the direction of our efforts. However, due to the existence of economic competition between local governments and the extensive economic growth model to develop the economy, its disadvantages are constantly appearing, and the air quality of each province or its neighboring provinces will be affected by the air pollution control.Environmental regulation,as an important tool for the government to govern the environment,is an important way to achieve a win-win situation between economic growth and environmental protection in China. It is important to understand the spatial characteristics of air pollution and the effect and mechanism of environmental regulation on provincial air pollution in China.Based on the data of 30 provinces and autonomous regions in China from 2005 to 2019(excluding Tibet),this thesis explores the spatial correlation of air pollution at provincial level in China, analyzes the impact of environmental regulations on air pollution at provincial level with the help of spatial Durbin model, and builds a mediating effect model with technological innovation as the mediating variable.Further explore the influence mechanism of environmental regulation on provincial air pollution in China. The main contents of the study are as follows:(1)The development trend and spatial correlation of provincial air pollution in China were explored. The results show that the trend of air pollution in China shows a decreasing trend, but before 2015,the average level of air pollution is 2.66 tons/km2,which is at a high level.After2015,the average level of air pollution shows a decreasing trend, which is 0.85 tons/km2.With the help of global Moran index and Moran scatter plot, the spatial distribution of air pollution in China has positive spatial autocorrelation and aggregation characteristics.(2)Through the construction of spatial Dubin model, the impact of environmental regulation on provincial air pollution in China was investigated, and regional heterogeneity was analyzed. The results are as follows:(1)Environmental regulation has a significant inhibitory effect on provincial air pollution in China, and after considering spatial spillover effect and regional characteristics, the improvement effect of environmental regulation on air pollution is reflected in central China.(2)Through the construction of dynamic spatial panel model,it is confirmed that air pollution in China will be affected by the previous air pollution level.(3)The decomposition of spatial spillover effects confirms that environmental regulations have an impact on air pollution in this region and its adjacent areas. In the future, strengthening inter-regional exchanges and cooperation on air pollution control is an important way to improve environmental governance.(4)The mediating effect model based on technological innovation demonstrates that technological innovation is the path through which environmental regulations affect air pollution in China, and the mediating effect of technological innovation is only reflected in western China after considering regional heterogeneity.
