In the context of"carbon peaking and carbon neutrality"and high-quality economic development,how to achieve cross-regional synergistic carbon emission reduction is a major research problem that needs to be solved.The construction industry is a pillar industry of China’s economic development,and although it has contributed to the rapid growth of the national economy,it also consumes a large amount of energy and resources,resulting in huge CO2 output.Improving carbon emission efficiency is the key path to achieve stable economic development and effective carbon emission reduction.Therefore,it is necessary to accurately measure the carbon emission efficiency of the construction industry and further explore the structure of the spatial correlation network and its formation mechanism.Based on this,this paper selects the construction industry in 30 Chinese provinces as the research object,and firstly,estimates the carbon dioxide emissions from 2004 to 2020 using an improved simplified life cycle assessment model;secondly,evaluates the carbon emission efficiency of the construction industry using the global reference super-efficiency EBM(epsilon-based measure of efficiency)model;again,the structural characteristics of the spatial correlation network of carbon emission efficiency in the construction industry were investigated through social network analysis;finally,the formation mechanism was explored by combining the quadratic assignment procedure(QAP),and suggestions for cross-regional collaborative carbon emission reduction were put forward.The research results show that:(1)China’s CO2 emissions from the construction industry increased rapidly from 576.5million t in 2004 to 323.0 million t in 2012,and then declined gradually to 199.851 million t in2020.In terms of composition,indirect CO2 emissions from the construction industry account for about 90%of the total CO2 emissions from the construction industry.In terms of spatial characteristics,there is a strong global positive correlation of CO2 emissions from the construction industry in China during most of the study period,and the results of the analysis of the standard deviation ellipse indicate that the spatial distribution of CO2 emissions from the construction industry in China shows a northeast-southwest pattern,with the center of gravity gradually shifting from central China to the southwest.Compared with 2005,the carbon emission intensity of the construction industry decreases by 57.87%in 2020.The average value of carbon emission intensity of the construction industry in each province is concentrated around 1t/10000yuan.(2)The carbon emission efficiency of the national construction industry has increased from 0.171 in 2004 to 0.538 in 2020,showing a steady increase on the whole.Spatially,the regional carbon emission efficiency of the construction industry shows a distribution pattern of"high in the east and low in the west";from the provincial perspective,the difference between the most efficient provinces and the least efficient provinces expands from 0.431 in 2004 to0.817 in 2020,and the difference among provinces gradually increases.From the spatial correlation network structure,it can be seen that the spatial correlation of carbon emission efficiency in the construction industry has broken through the traditional geographic proximity restriction and gradually presented a non-linear spatial correlation network structure of"core-edge".(3)In terms of the overall network characteristics,the network density tends to increase and the network efficiency tends to decrease during the study period,and the spatial correlation network become closer and closer,the spillover channels gradually increase,and the stability of the network structure is strengthened;the network correlation degree is always 1,and the spatial correlation network structure has good connectivity and robustness.In terms of individual network characteristics,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Shanghai,Tianjin and Shandong are at the center of the network of carbon emission efficiency in the construction industry,playing the role of"intermediary"and"bridge".In terms of network clustering characteristics,the 30provinces are divided into four segments,namely,"bidirectional spillover plate,""main inflow plate,""main outflow plate,"and"agent plate",in which the provinces in the"main inflow plate"are in the center of the network.From the perspective of network formation mechanism,geographical proximity,regional economic level disparity and urbanization difference have a significant positive influence on the formation of spatial correlation network of carbon emission efficiency in China’s construction industry;industrial agglomeration disparity has a significant negative influence on the formation of spatial correlation network,although the regression coefficients of labor productivity difference and energy saving technology level difference are positive,the influence effect is not significant,and its influence mechanism The regression coefficients of labor productivity difference and energy
