Since the 18 th Party Conference, the Party Central Office has taken the development of the digital economy very seriously, elevating it to the level of a national strategy.China has moved into the era of the digital economy, and at the same time,in order to play a major role in solving global environmental problems,China has set a "double carbon target" of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutane by 2060,thus facing enormous pressure on carbon emissions.Vigorous development of the digital economy will help the country achieve green and low-carbon development. The digital economy includes the digitalisation of industry and digital industrialisation,of which the digitalisation of industry accounts for more than 80%,thus highlighting the important relationship between the digitalisation of the industry and the carbon dioxide emissions. This paper therefore examines the impact of the digitalisation of industry on the carbon dioxide emissions of cities at the prefecture level in Henan Province, and explores the new paths of industrial digitisation and carbon emission reduction for each prefecture-level city and region in Henan Province.Based on the existing literature, the concept and implications of industrial digitalisation will be sorted out and the relevant theories, such as the environmental Kuznets curve and the Porter hypothesis, will be summarised and synthesised.Based on this, firstly,a suitable index system is constructed to measure the level of industrial digitalisation development at the municipal level, and the comprehensive score of industrial digitalisation development from 2011 to 2017 is calculated for 17 cities at the prefecture level in Henan Province by the entropic weight method, and the analysis of industrial digitalisation and carbon emission in Henan Province is carried out.Secondly,a visualisation of the industrial digitalisation development level and carbon emissions in Henan Province was carried out to show the spatial evolution of the results. Finally,a spatial Durbin model(SDM)has been constructed for both static panel regression analysis and spatial panel regression analysis, and the effect of industrial digitalisation on carbon emissions was studied by dividing Henan Province into five regions: East,West,South,North and Central Henan. The results of the study show that, firstly, the digitalisation of industry in Henan Province has the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the region, and there is spatial heterogeneity, with industrial digitalisation in the eastern part of Henan Province will have a more significant impact on the reduction of carbon emissions in the region;secondly, the model of the development of industrial digitalisation in Henan Province has changed from a "multi-point" type approach, with the pioneer area as the core,to a "sporadic" type approach, and the carbon emission pattern shows a mediumhigh and low distribution;thirdly, there is an obvious positive spatial correlation between the carbon emission levels of Henan cities, and the cities with higher(lower)carbon emission levels are surrounded by other cities with the same higher(lower)carbon emission levels. This leads to the following policy recommendations: firstly, implement heterogeneous governance strategies based on the development differences between different regions in Henan Province;secondly, consolidate digital infrastructure across Henan Province and promote digital empowerment and emission reduction in regions with weaker levels of industrial digital development;thirdly, strengthen digital innovation and research and development for high carbon industries in Henan Province, enhance technological support capabilities and accelerate industrial digital transformation. |
