The realization of the "dual carbon" goal requires not only the solution of productive problems, but also the efforts of the consumer-side.The existence of the consumer-side urban residential sector provides an effective foothold for the implementation of the dual carbon strategy. The exertion of the emission reduction advantages of the consumer-side resident sector needs to rely on their willingness to reduce emissions, which represents a possible emission reduction space in their daily consumption. In the past, the academic community had some differences on the investigation of the influencing factors of the residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions. The researches on the residents’ willingness to reduce carbon emissions usually only stayed at the level of their own willingness, but there was no further discussion on the specific emission reduction that can be achieved behind the residents’ willingness to reduce carbon emissions.Under the dual carbon background, the academic community has carried out some discussions on grasping the development opportunities brought by the dual carbon goals and giving full play to the advantages of residents’ consumption carbon emission reduction. However, since the exploration in this area is still in the initial stage, there are few specific investigations on the residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions. In this context, relying on the background of the "dual carbon" goal, conducting empirical research on residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions and the achievable carbon emission reductions behind their willingness will not only enrich the research perspective of residents’ willingness to reduce carbon consumption, innovate the research path of residents’ emission reduction under the "dual carbon" goal, but also is helpful to give play to the advantages of consumer-side residents in reducing emissions and promote it better serve the implementation of the dual carbon strategy.Firstly, based on the relevant literature, this paper theoretically analyzes the willingness of urban residents to reduce carbon emissions and the characteristics of carbon emission reduction that can be achieved by relying on the Lewing behavior model and low carbon city theory. It constructs the theoretical analysis framework of this paper to provide support for subsequent research.Secondly, taking Hangzhou as an example,we investigated residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions through the questionnaire method, and explored the sociodemographic characteristic factors and external situational factors that affect residents’ willingness using the binary logic regression model and multiple response cross table analysis method. Then,on the basis of residents’ willingness to to reduce consumption carbon emissions,we calculated the carbon emission reduction that can be achieved by their daily consumption behind their willingness.According to the calculation results,we analyzed the structural characteristics of carbon reduction that can be achieved by their daily consumption from the first level dimension of direct and indirect consumption of residents’ daily life, the second level dimension of clothing, diet, residence and travel, and the third level dimension of each specific consumption activity. We investigated the group difference characteristics of carbon reduction that can be achieved by their consumption with the help of dummy variable regression model. The main results of this study are as follows::(1)Residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions is affected by four sociodemographic characteristics, namely, age, gender, education level and annual family income. There are certain differences in residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions under different levels of the same factor.(2)Economic incentives and subsidies, the demonstration effect of people around, social atmosphere, publicity and education, and the requirements of regulations are all external situational factors that affect residents’ willingness to reduce consumption carbon emissions. The impact of each factor has a certain group heterogeneity among residents.(3)The carbon emission reduction that can be achieved by residents’ consumption shows different levels in different consumption activities and different groups, which has obvious structural characteristics and group differences. Finally, based on the research results, this paper proposes relevant policy recommendations that will help the city government to use the advantages of carbon emission reduction of residents’ consumption, and promote the consumer-side urban residents to better serve the implementation of the dual carbon strategy in China. It mainly includes:(1)Implement classified policies to accurately grasp the willingness of residents with different sociodemographic characteristics to reduce consumption carbon emissions.(2)Take multiple measures at the same time to create a positive external environment for promoting residents to reduce consumption carbon emissions.(3)Taking the characteristics of carbon emission reduction that can be achieved by residents’ consumption as a reference, tap the emission reduction space of different energy consumption activities and groups of residents fully. |
