Ming and Qing Dynasty costumes are a paradigm of traditional Chinese culture and a symbol of ethnic culture.The existence of a large number of clothing artifacts provides valuable references and inspiration,making it of great significance for research.As the visual center of clothing,collars have a prominent structural composition and have developed along with the culture of clothing since its inception.The unique cultural significance inherent in collars has attracted attention from experts and scholars.Currently,there is a wealth of research on traditional Chinese collars,collars during the Tang and Song dynasties,and standing collars during the Ming and Qing dynasties.However,research on collar forms and their cultural connotations during the Ming and Qing dynasties is relatively scarce.This article focuses on the collar forms in Ming and Qing Dynasty costumes,and studies the cultural connotations reflected by collar forms,collar edging,and collar decorations based on ancient paintings,historical artifacts,and literary texts.It analyzes the factors influencing the evolution of collar forms such as crossed,round,straight,square,and standing types.The article is based on the historical background of the development of Ming and Qing Dynasty costumes.Firstly,the paper explores the history of costumes from pre-Qin,Qin and Han,to Tang and Song dynasties and studies the development of Han Costume in Ming Dynasty and Manchu costume in Qing Dynasty.It analyzes the social background of the evolution of Ming and Qing costumes and classifies male and female costume forms during the two dynasties,extracting collar forms and collar decorations and comparing them.Secondly,the paper examines the cultural connotations reflected by collar forms and the civilizing influence of ritual practices.It analyzes the impact of factors such as climate,economic development,ethnic integration,and aesthetic concepts on the evolution of collar forms,as well as the cultural significance of collar edging and collar decorations in Ming and Qing costumes.Finally,based on the new trend of traditional collar design in modern clothing,the paper proposes methods for the application of traditional collar designs in modern clothing design based on styles,patterns,colors,and structures.It also provides examples of branded clothing applications to expand the sources of inspiration and design approaches in modern clothing design while promoting traditional clothing culture to be more fully integrated into modern clothing.Through the study of Ming and Qing costumes,this paper aims to enhance people’s sense of identification with traditional culture,inherit the traditional cultural genes in modern clothing,and contribute to the study of traditional Chinese clothing culture.
