Farmland mulch is one of the indispensable agronomic technologies for agricultural development, and China is a major user of farmland mulch, with the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region leading the country in the use of farmland mulch year-round.While the use of agricultural mulch has improved crop yields, the negative effects of residual film pollution are also becoming a concern. In order to understand the current status of residual film pollution on farmland in southern Xinjiang, this study conducted a field survey on the amount of residual film on farmland in southern Xinjiang with a total of 680 sample plots in 34 counties and cities of 5 prefectures in southern Xinjiang, with respect to the proportion of crops grown in the study area and the current status of farmland mulching,to understand the current status of residual film on farmland in southern Xinjiang and to explore the factors influencing this status using geographic probes and the entropy value method, with the following conclusions.(1)The amount of mulch film residue in agricultural fields in the five regions of southern Xinjiang was large, and the 680 samples obtained from field sampling in the study area were found to range from 8.04 to 258.26 kg·hm-2.The amount of mulch residue also has significant differences from each autonomous prefecture. The average amount of mulch film residue in Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture was relatively high and moderately polluted, while the average amount of film residue in Hotan Prefecture was relatively low and lightly polluted. The county with the highest level of residual film pollution is Aketao, and the county with the lightest level of pollution is Lop County.(2)The amount of mulch film residue is affected by the number of years of mulching, mulching crop, plot area and distance between farmland and village. The higher the year of mulching, the higher the amount of mulch residue. The highest mulch film residue were found in cotton, followed by maize, vegetables in third and melons in the smallest. The smaller the farmland area the lower the amount of mulch film residue, and with the increase of farmland plot area the amount of mulch film residue also increased. The amount of mulch film residue gradually increased as the distance between farmland and village increased.Through geographical detector analysis, the order of influence of each factor on the amount of mulch film residue in farmland in southern Xinjiang was mulching year>plot area>mulch crop>distance between farmland and village, indicating that mulching year was the most important factor affecting the amount of mulch film residue in farmland.(3)The analysis of the indicators affecting the residual film pollution of farmland in southern Xinjiang by the entropy method yielded three indicators with relatively high weights, namely, per capita disposable income of rural residents, number of teachers and number of schools. They are14.43%,12.54%and 12.31%,respectively.The two sub-indicators of ecological management level have relatively low weights of 7.91%and 5.90%,respectively,indicating that the degree of economic development and the education level of residents have a greater influence on the pollution of mulch film residue in southern Xinjiang.
