Transportation is not only an important basic transportation tool of the country, but also has the characteristics of strategy and guidance. It brings great convenience to people’s lives and provides impetus for the long-term development of the country. However, during the development of the transportation industry,a series of problems inevitably arise. In recent years, major traffic accidents have caused adverse effects on society. At the same time, the dust, automobile exhaust and so on generated in the transportation process have caused certain pressure on the ecological environment, which is unfavorable to the sustainable development of China’s transportation industry. In an ESG research report published by Goldman Sachs Group in 2006,it was mentioned that the three independent concepts of environment, society and corporate governance should form a new concept.Since then,ESG has attracted attention from all walks of life and become the decisive factor of sustainable development of enterprises. Therefore, this paper takes the transportation industry as the research object, and constructs a detailed and practical ESG evaluation index system. In this paper, firstly, the related concepts and theories of ESG are sorted out. Then, through the development characteristics of transportation industry, combined with the ESG evaluation system of relevant literatures and institutions, based on stakeholder theory, combined with triple bottom line theory and sustainable development theory, the ESG evaluation index system of transportation industry is constructed, which includes 3 first-class indexes,8 second-class indexes,24 third-class indexes and 40 fourth-class indexes. On this basis,an empirical study was made on the ESG performance of 22 listed companies in the industry classification of China Securities Regulatory Commission(2012 edition)in 2020.The index weight was obtained by entropy weight method, and the expected value of ESG comprehensive score was obtained by TOPSIS method. The index data and expected value were brought into BP neural network model for training, and an accurate ESG evaluation model was obtained to evaluate the ESG performance of listed companies in the transportation industry. The evaluation results are as follows:From the comprehensive score of ESG,it can be seen that the overall ESG performance of transportation enterprises is average, among which the ESG performance of air transportation industry is the best, and that of road transportation industry is the worst, and there is polarization phenomenon inside, which needs attention.According to the scores of ESG dimensions, the social responsibility dimension has the highest score, and the corporate governance dimension and the environmental dimension rank second and third respectively.According to the scores of stakeholders, the scores of employees, customers and the environment are higher, but the scores of government, society and shareholders are lower.Enterprises should achieve coordinated development with different stakeholders.
