Musical Dance On Paper-A Study Of Paper Cutting In JiaoDong Folk Music And Dance

As a regional folk art form,the JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting is a material carrier of the history,culture and art of JiaoDong.It has inherited the common features of traditional folk paper-cutting in northern China in terms of cultural value,functional occasions and aesthetic connotations.The JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting has developed with the times and is unique to the JiaoDong region in terms of structure,form,language and aesthetic pursuit.The paper is divided into five chapters to discuss the JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting:The first chapter gives an overview of the background and evolution of the JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting and its application from a macro perspective.Influenced by the natural and humanistic environment of the JiaoDong region,paper-cutting has gone through a series of stages of development,from the emergence of modelling techniques to the creation of paper-cutting art,the folklorisation of paper-cutting,the entry of music and dance themes into the creative field,and the creation of a wide range of music and dance themes.Depending on the purpose and application of the paper cuttings,there are different types of wall flowers,window flowers,embroidery patterns and so on.The second chapter focuses on the expression of the musical and dance themes in the JiaoDong musical and dance paper cutouts.In terms of the types of expression,the richness of JiaoDong’s music and dance activities can be appreciated through the colourful expressions of musical instruments,dances and operas in the world of music and dance paper-cutting.The effect of the presentation of the themes of the music and dance is that the music and dance paper cuts are based on real life,but they also take on a different artistic form from reality.The people’s music and dance preferences and spiritual aspirations build a bridge between the music and dance and the paper cuttings,making the music and dance paper cuttings a visual record of JiaoDong music and dance life.The third chapter analyses the art form of paper-cutting.The paper cutouts of the JiaoDong music and dance present a three-dimensional dynamic image of the music and dance on a two-dimensional plane by virtue of their concise generality,exaggerated rhyme,appropriate thickness,bright colours and chic colour combinations,as well as their flat,decorative and free-form compositional methods,and the unity of the changing formal elements of point,line and surface within the square of the paper.The fourth chapter explains the aesthetic qualities of the JiaoDong music and dance paper cut-outs,mainly from three aspects:firstly,as an image record of JiaoDong folk music and dance activities,the paper cut-outs reveal the people’s music and dance preferences and aesthetic tendencies.Secondly,as folk art,the paper cutouts convey the aesthetic interest of folklore.The intention of the paper cutouts is both secular and utilitarian,seeking luck and good fortune,and people-oriented,while the ingenuity of the creation shows the fun of simplicity and authenticity.Thirdly,as a tool for people to entertain themselves and express their feelings,JiaoDong’s paper-cutting has a unique aesthetic and entertainment value.It also has aesthetic cognitive and educational value because of its rich traditional cultural heritage and folklore essence.The fifth chapter explores the heritage and development of JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting in the contemporary social context.As an intangible cultural heritage,paper-cutting has developed into two types of inheritance:traditional and professional,and three types of inheritance:family inheritance,master and apprentice inheritance and social inheritance.These require the implementation of a comprehensive and multi-dimensional heritage strategy at governmental,subject and professional levels,in order to explore a suitable path for the heritage development of JiaoDong music and dance paper-cutting.
