Since the reform and opening up,China’s social and economic development has achieved great success, and it has made historic strides in the economy, technology and people’s lives. However, the environmental problems brought about by rapid economic development cannot be ignored. In the face of the increasing complexity and uncertainty of the international economic situation,as well as the downward pressure on the domestic economy and the ever-increasing constraints on energy resources,it is difficult to achieve extensive economic growth that simply relied on high investment and strong stimulus on the demand side in the past.As the mainstay of the country’s national economic growth and a major energy consumption sector, the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry is crucial to improving and managing climate issues. Therefore, studying the impact and mechanism of manufacturing transformation and upgrading on carbon emissions has great significance in both theory and realism for taking into account economic growth and carbon reduction and emission reduction, and then realizing a comprehensive green transformation of economy and social.Based on the existing research, combined with the characteristics and trends of the fourth industrial revolution, the paper explains the connotation and specific performance of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, from the overall development level of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, the advanced industrial structure, the rationalization of the industrial structure, the production The three specific characteristic dimensions of intelligent mode measure the development status of manufacturing transformation and upgrading in the whole country and the eastern, central and western regions. On the basis of clarifying the specific connotation and performance characteristics of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, and measuring the level of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, combined with the analysis of the current situation of the carbon emission level, the theoretical mechanism of the impact of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry on carbon emissions is studied. On this basis, based on the panel data of 30 provinces in my country from 2006 to 2019,the spatial Durbin model and the panel vector autoregressive model are used to study the impact of manufacturing transformation and upgrading on carbon emissions and spatial spillover effects. The impact of manufacturing transformation and upgrading on carbon emissions over time. The research results show that:(1)The improvement of the level of transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry has a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions, and the improvement of the rationalization level of the industrial structure in the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry has a more obvious effect on reducing carbon emissions in economic activities.(2)The transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry has a negative spatial spillover effect on the whole, but the advanced industrial structure in its specific characteristic dimension shows a positive spatial spillover effect, while the rationalization of the industrial structure and the intelligent production mode show a negative spatial spillover effect.(3)From the perspective of the three major regions of the eastern, central and western regions, the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry generally has a significant negative impact on carbon emissions, and only the eastern region has a negative spatial spillover effect. However, there are certain regional differences in the impact of specific characteristics and dimensions of manufacturing transformation and upgrading on carbon emissions.(4)There is a long-term co-integration relationship between manufacturing transformation and upgrading and carbon emissions, and the impact of manufacturing transformation and upgrading on carbon emissions is mainly concentrated in the early and mid-term,and the characteristics of manufacturing transformation and upgrading in different regions have the greatest impact on carbon emissions There are differences in dimensions.According to the research results of the article, this paper comes up with the following countermeasures and suggestions for finding a way of manufacturing transformation that meets the goals of carbon reduction and emission reduction:(1)Deeply adjust the industrial structure of the manufacturing industry and continue to promote the upgrading of the structure.(2)Promote the deep integration of the manufacturing industry and the new generation of information technology, and strengthen the application of green and clean technology.(3)Formulate industrial policies according to local conditions, and improve the standard measurement system and supervision system.(4)Build a green and low-carbon manufacturing system and comprehensively promote the green transformation of the economy and society.
