In recent years,China’s industrial development has made world-renowned achievements, but with the continuous development of industrialization, the environmental pollution has been increasing, posing a serious threat to sustainable economic and social development. The public has recognized the importance of environmental protection.Industrial pollution reduces China’s environmental quality seriously and is the main source of environmental pollution in China.Industrial waste gas, industrial wastewater and industrial solid waste pollution are the focus of remediation. Therefore, this paper focuses on the impact of investment in treatment of industrial pollution China’s industrial emissions from a non-linear perspective, which helps to clarify the impact mechanism of industrial pollution control investment on China’s environmental pollution and provide valuable references for China to carry out industrial pollution control.Firstly, this paper reviews the research on investment in treatment of industrial pollution and environmental pollution. On this basis, presents a theoretical and current analysis of the impact of industrial pollution control investment on environmental pollution.Based on the above study, this paper uses a panel smoothing transfer model to investigate the nonlinear effects of investment in treatment of industrial pollution on environmental pollution in 30 provinces from 2003 to 2019,with industrial pollution control investment as the transformed variable, industrial "three wastes" emissions as the explained variable, and economic development level as the control variables.Meanwhile, dividing the 30 provinces into the eastern, central and western regions,to study the relationship between investment and environmental pollution and environmental pollution from a regional perspective, and comparing the differences in treatment of industrial pollution effects between regions. In addition, the model is tested for robustness in terms of variable selection and model setting,to verify the robustness of the regression results. The empirical study demonstrates that: firstly,China’s environmental pollution is characterized by differentiation among three regions, with different levels of economic development and industrial development in different regions, and the eastern region faces more pressure on environmental management compared with the central and western regions.Secondly, investment in treatment of industrial pollution plays a important role in reducing environmental pollution in China, there is a non-linear relationship because the environmental effect lags behind the investment in industrial pollution control. As the amount of investment increases, the effect on waste water discharged and waste gas emissions gradually changes from positive to negative, which plays a role in reducing environmental pollution.Thirdly, the investment in industrial solid waste control has limited effect on the discharge of industrial solid waste,so the discharge of industrial solid waste increases year by year.Based on the results of the above theoretical and empirical analysis, this paper proposes policy recommendations for reducing environmental pollution from the perspectives of increasing investment in industrial pollution control, strengthening industrial solid waste control, and enhancing the management of emissions from heavily polluting industrial sectors,so as to establishing a long-term and effective industrial pollution control system.
