In recent years,with the development of culture and art economy,buying trendy toys has become an interesting choice for a new generation of young people,and trendy toys have therefore moved from the niche to the public.Youth subculture is the source of artistic creation of trendy toys,and the diverse cultural styles bring endless imagination.However,with the market-oriented development of the trendy toy industry,on the one hand,many trendy toy brands blindly follow the market’s popularity,and the phenomenon of homogenization is serious.On the other hand,there is a lack of cognitive communication between many designers and users.Excessive design creativity cannot arouse users’ aesthetic experience and spiritual identity,and the design results are difficult to achieve expectations.This paper takes the design of trendy toys as the research object.The research method is to form a design strategy in line with the aesthetics of youth subcultures by establishing a user’s mental model,and to explore the innovation of trendy toy design methods based on the user’s mental model.Firstly,the related concepts are researched and sorted out,and the cultural evolution,cultural style and group boundary of youth subculture are analyzed.Secondly,through the analysis and summary of relevant cases,the performance of design and creation is discussed from the perspective of nostalgic attachment,technical optimism,and visual aesthetic style of youth subcultures,and the creation methods of existing youth subculture trend toys are analyzed.Design features of graphic poaching that compose creative and design symbols.Finally,this paper uses qualitative and quantitative methods to conduct user research and user social path analysis for young subculture enthusiasts,from the symbolic consumption mental characteristics of self-imagination,the aesthetic mental characteristics of contradictory symbiosis and marginal flow,and the strategy of seeking common ground while reserving differences that subvert users’ minds Get product strategy and design strategy above.This article takes the "Oasis" series of trendy toy designs as the design practice content.In terms of product strategy,we have established a trendy toy IP story concept of fantasy and resistance to colors.In terms of character design,we seek common ground while reserving differences.We choose species from the oasis ecology for anthropomorphic design and establish a relationship between each other’s characters.In terms of design strategy,retro-futurism was chosen as the design style and a case study of color,shape and texture was carried out to ensure the unity of the overall style.Through this trend toy design case,a systematic trend toy design method is constructed,and the feasibility of the design method is demonstrated.
