In recent years, with the rapid development of my country’s economy, the excessive consumption of natural resources has put great pressure on resources and the environment. The Yellow River Basin is the backbone of economic and social development in the northern part of my country, and its ecological protection and high-quality development have been elevated to national strategies. The acceleration of the construction of the Yellow River Basin consumes a large amount of natural resources, resulting in a weak ecosystem and an unsustainable ecosystem. In order to change the phenomenon of over-exploitation of resources,it is necessary to analyze the utilization of natural resources and explore the sustainable development path of the Yellow River Basin. The ecological footprint model is an effective analysis method for resource utilization. The improved three-dimensional ecological footprint model can better measure the ecological carrying capacity and the use of natural capital, and is an important tool for studying the level of sustainable development in the region. This paper takes nine provinces and regions in the Yellow River Basin as the research object, and, based on the improved three-dimensional ecological footprint model, analyzes the ecological footprint, ecological carrying capacity, footprint breadth, footprint depth, and three-dimensional ecological footprint of the Yellow River Basin from 2011 to 2020,and discusses the nature of the Yellow River Basin.consumption of capital.Combined with the evaluation indicators of sustainable development:ecological pressure index,stock-flow utilization ratio, ecological footprint diversity index,three-dimensional ecological footprint of ten thousand yuan GDP,and ecological sustainability index, the sustainable development status of nine provinces in the Yellow River Basin was evaluated.Through the research, the following conclusions were drawn:The nine provinces and autonomous regions of the Yellow River Basin are all in a state of ecological deficit, with higher levels in Ningxia and Neimenggu, and lower levels in Qinghai,Sichuan, and Gansu. The high-value areas of ecological footprint breadth are mostly located in the west, and the low-value areas are mostly located in the middle and east. The three provinces of Neimenggu,Ningxia, and Qinghai have a relatively high per capita footprint, while the three provinces of Sichuan,Shandong, and Henan have a low per capita footprint. The high-value areas of ecological footprint depth are mostly located in the east, and the low-value areas are mostly located in the central and western regions.Shandong is the province with the highest footprint depth, and Gansu Province is the province with the lowest footprint depth.Shanxi,Shandong, and Shaanxi belong to the type of heavy consumption of capital stock;Ningxia belongs to the type of moderate consumption of capital stock;Henan and Sichuan belong to the type of light consumption of capital stock, and Qinghai,Gansu, and Neimenggu belong to the type of slight consumption of capital stock. The nine provinces and autonomous regions of the Yellow River Basin are all in an unsustainable state.Among them,The ecological footprint diversity index from high to low is:Sichuan,Henan,Gansu,Shandong,Qinghai,Neimenggu,Ningxia,Shaanxi,Shanxi.Sichuan’s economic production structure is more reasonable and its resource utilization rate is higher, while Ningxia’s resource utilization rate is lower.Ningxia,Neimenggu,Shanxi,Shaanxi,Henan, and Shandong belong to the ecologically strong and unsustainable states,Qinghai and Gansu belong to the ecologically weak and unsustainable states, and Sichuan has realized the transition from the ecologically strong and unsustainable state to the weakly unsustainable state. On the basis of analyzing the resource utilization status of the Yellow River Basin and the evaluation of sustainable development, combined with the development status of the Yellow River Basin, from the aspects of natural resource allocation, ecological environment governance, industrial structure transformation and improving the ecological compensation mechanism, countermeasures and suggestions are put forward for the sustainable development of the Yellow River Basin.Development provides theoretical basis and decision-making reference.
