In the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the need to make important arrangements for education work,and delivered a series of speeches,which profoundly discussed "what kind of people to train,how to train people,why we should train people" and "what to do".Major issues such as education,how to run education well,and why we should run education” require the party and the country to vigorously promote quality education,improve national self-cultivation,promote the all-round development of talents,and cultivate more high-quality and outstanding talents for the society and the country.Create a new situation in the reform of the educational system,so that the people of the whole country can enjoy the fruits of educational development,truly promote educational equity,and achieve the goal of strengthening the country through education.With the advent of the knowledge economy,higher education has increasingly become a key issue affecting economic and social development.In the process of the development of national education,the relationship between higher education and economic development is constantly changing with the development of the industrial revolution.But no matter what the relationship between the two is,they are inseparable.In recent years,the rapid economic growth has gradually relied on the continuous progress of science and technology,and the key to promoting scientific and technological progress is to receive education.As the highest level of education,higher education is an important stage for cultivating innovative talents,which will affect a country’s economy.Development level and development model.However,the development level of my country’s higher education is not balanced at present,and there are great differences between regions.In this regard,the development of higher education has attracted the attention of governments at all levels,and should vigorously promote the economic development of backward areas.Based on this,this paper summarizes the literature and establishes a model to conduct empirical research by reading domestic and foreign scholars’ related literature on the relationship between higher education and economic development.The research on the relationship between education and economy is sorted out,and the human capital theory,new economic growth theory and related methods used in the paper are introduced,which lays a good foundation for subsequent empirical analysis.The annual data is used as a sample.From the three dimensions of education scale,education input and education output,corresponding indicators are selected to construct the evaluation index system of higher education development.The evaluation index system of the economic development level is reflected by 8indicators,and then the global principal component analysis method is used to construct a time series three-dimensional data table;Carry out measurement research,build a VAR model after a series of stationarity tests,and use impulse response and variance decomposition analysis to deeply study the relationship between the two.The research results show that economic development is one of the important factors that promote the development of higher education.The coordination of the relationship between the two leads to the conclusion of the study.The research results show that from 2005 to 2019,the level of higher education and economic development in each region has improved to a certain extent.The development level of the eastern region is relatively high,the development of the three northeastern provinces and the central region is moderate,and the western region is relatively backward.There is a large gap between the visible areas.By constructing a VAR model,it is found that there is a mutual influence and coordination relationship between higher education and the level of economic development,and economic growth has a great contribution to the development of higher education.Based on the above research results,the following suggestions and countermeasures are put forward: first,to promote regional economic development and increase investment in education,so as to provide more high-quality human capital;second,to expand the opening of education to the outside world and encourage cross-regional exchanges of talents;Third,promote the rationalization of resource allocation by optimizing regional educational resources.
