The present dissertation is a comprehensive study on the fauna of Flatidae(Hemiptera:Fulgoroidea)from China. The history of this family in China and abroad is primarily reviewed, problems exist in the family and the aim of this study are introduced and discussed.Material and methods, biology and economic significances, geographical distribution of the family is briefly summarized, the taxonomy of this family is studied.1.Geographical distributionAccording to statistics, the family Flatidae contains two subfamilies,1446 sepcies of 107 genera in 14 tribes.Flatidae are distributed in Oriental Region,Neotropical Region,Australian Region,Palaearctic Region and Nearctic Region, with 83 genera 290 species,72 genera of 337 species,58 genera of 626 species,25 genera of 109 species and 10 genera of 27 species, respectively.Distribution statistics show that the Oriental Region,Afrotropical Region,Neotropical Region and Australia Region are dominant in all Zoogeographical regions, regardless of the number of genera or species, especially in the Oriental region, which is significantly higher than that of other regions.Among the zoogeographic regions of China, the most widely distributed regions are South China region(82 species),accounting for 79.61% of the known species of Cicadidae in China;the second is Central China region(29 species),comprising 28.16%;the third is Southwest region(8 species),composing 7.77%;the fourth is North China region(3 species),consisting2.91%;the Mengxin Region and Qinghai-Tibet Region both with 1 species, accounting for 0.97%respectively,ranking the fifth in the six regions.2.Taxonomy partIn this part,103 species of 35 genera of Flatidae are recognized,of which 32 species and5 genera are new to science,4 genera and 3 species are newly recorded from China and 2 new combinations are recognized and revised. The research situation and distribution of each taxon is summarized.Keys to all the tribes, genera and species are given.Morphological characters, male and female genitalia of the new species and some others are illustrated. The new genera, new records to Chinese fauna and new combinations are listed as follows:New genera: Neoflatida gen.nov.,Neogeisha gen.nov.,Sanda gen.nov.,Wattlea gen.nov.,Choua gen.nov.New species: Flatomorpha adsuma sp.nov.,Flatomorpha stramina sp.nov.,Flatomorpha variegata sp.nov.,Flatomorpha viridisa sp.nov.,Flatomorpha zephiruma sp.nov.,Idume hippa sp.nov.,Melicharia cypriuma sp.nov.,Neoflatida astuta sp.nov.,Geisha clarusa sp.nov.,Geisha fletcheri sp.nov.,Geisha obtusa sp.nov.,Geisha puella sp.nov.,Geisha microdonta sp.nov.,Neogeisha biuncialis sp.nov.,Neogeisha sticka sp.nov.,Neosalurnis yalini sp.nov.,Neosalurnis eurycantha sp.nov.,Neosalurnis ensata sp.nov.,Armorseliza macrosa sp.nov.,Armorseliza polyspinis sp.nov.,Sanda jianfengensis sp.nov.,Wattlea distincta sp.nov.,Wattlea wana sp.nov.,Zecheuna curva sp.nov.,Cerfennia crucia sp.nov.,Cerfennia glauca sp.nov.,Cerfennia melathora sp.nov.,Atracis ophthalma sp.nov.,Atracis planaria sp.nov.,Atracis serpensa sp.nov.,Atracis sphaera sp.nov.,Atracis ungula sp.nov.Newly recorded genera: Flatomorpha Melichar,1902,n.rec.,Idume St(?)l,1866,n.rec.,Phantia Fieber,1866,n.rec.,Cerfennia St(?)l,1870,n.rec.Newly recorded species: Mimophantia stictica(Melichar,1902)n.rec.,Phantia cylindricornis Melichar,1902,n.rec.New combinations: Choua basimacula(Wang & Chou,2003),n.comb.,Choua medgensis(Chou & Lu,1981),n.comb.
