The breakthrough in research methods can promote the development of educational theory,the selection of research methods will affect the quality of doctoral dissertation,learning research methods are conducive to improving the research literacy of doctoral candidates.In recent years,the scale of doctoral candidates has been expanding and the examination standards for postgraduate dissertations have been constantly improved.In this context,the research methods of examining doctoral dissertations from multiple perspectives have practical relevance and are also beneficial to deepening the understanding of research methods.This dissertation uses 104 doctoral dissertations from 2015 to 2019 in the principle of pedagogy as a research sample,and uses the literature method and content analysis method to statistically and analyze the research methods selected for these dissertations to understand how doctoral candidates choose and use research methods to find out the problems and misunderstandings,and put forward some preliminary suggestions.Research findings: First,almost all doctoral candidates introduced research methods in the introduction part of the dissertation.Second,there are a total of 66 specific research methods selected by doctoral candidates,among which the frequency of selection of literature method,interview method and questionnaire method ranks in the top three.In addition,doctoral candidates have borrowed research methods from sociology,economics and other disciplines in educational research.However,some doctoral candidates cannot fully understand the difference between research methodology and specific research methods.Third,judging from the statements made by doctoral candidates on the content of research methods,more than half of the doctoral candidates did not clearly distinguish the level of research methods.Fourth,more than half of the doctoral candidates did not mention research methodology.Fifth,there are the following problems in the use of research methods by doctoral candidates: When using the literature method,some doctoral candidates did not give a detailed explanation on the use of the literature method;some mentioned the CNKI database,but did not mention other databases;some did not find high-quality papers and documents.When using the interview method,a few dissertations did not attach the interview outline;some did not mention that there was a trial talk before the formal interview;nearly half of them did not explain the collation and analysis of the interview data,and most of them did not code the interview data and generalization;some did not make full use of the interview content,that is,did not explain the interview content,or did not use them as arguments in the thesis.When some doctoral candidates use the questionnaire method,there are some problems in the design of the questionnaire,such as the expression is not standardized,the setting of the problem is not reasonable,the structure of the questionnaire is missing,and there are some problems in the implementation of the questionnaire,such as the lack of test,the lack of reliability and validity test,the lack of representativeness of the survey samples,and the low recovery rate of the questionnaire.In view of the problems in the selection and application of research methods for doctoral candidates,suggestions are made: choose multiple research methods courses for learning;recognize the level and complexity of educational research methods;standardize the basic requirements of educational research methods in doctoral dissertations.
