As a basic physical parameter of scientific experiment research and engineering counting,precision time interval measurement has been widely used in many fields,such as laser ranging,satellite launch,weapon strike,navigation communication and positioning,high-energy physics experiment,etc.This paper focuses on the research of high-resolution time interval measurement technology.After theoretical analysis,scheme design,hardware circuit design,software code writing,upper computer software writing and experimental verification,the high resolution time interval measurement is achieved.The specific contents are as follows:1.Through the analysis and comparison of the time interval measurement method and measurement principle,a measurement method combining coarse measurement with direct counting method and fine measurement with time-amplitude conversion method is determined,and the measurement principle is described in detail.2.Design the overall scheme and module circuit of time interval measurement system,including time signal conditioning circuit,time amplitude conversion circuit,phase-locked loop circuit,temperature detection circuit and power supply circuit,and design and analysis of each functional module circuit.3.Design the overall software scheme,write the interval coarse counting program realized by FPGA,and the interval fine measurement,temperature acquisition and phase locked loop control program realized by MCU(STM32).The measurement and control software of upper computer is designed by using Lab VIEW development environment.The user can control the measurement,display and saving of time interval signal through the interface.4.Theoretical analysis of the measurement indexes is carried out and a testing platform is built.The power supply board,TAC circuit and time interval measurement mode were tested,the time interval measurement resolution and measurement accuracy were measured,and the measurement data were statistically analyzed.To sum up,the paper realizes the time interval measurement function combining coarse counting and fine measurement by using direct counting method and time-amplitude conversion method.After several measurements,the data results show that when the time interval measurement is less than 10 ms,the measurement accuracy RMS is less than 60 ps,and the measurement resolution is 5ps,which has good practical value and application prospect.
