A Study On Media Image Of Depression Patients In Media Weibo

As the most prevalent mental illness,depression has a serious impact on the physical and mental health of sufferers.However,many people have prejudice and discrimination against mental illness,believing that the cause of the illness lies in the patient's lack of strength.Such accusations add to the stigma of depression and reduce patients' sense of autonomy to seek medical treatment.As an important source of information for audiences,the presentation of depression in the media can influence audience perceptions and attitudes.Weibo,as an important social media,has a large number of daily activities and influence.This paper selects four media microblogs,namely People's Daily,Xinjing News,China News Network,as samples for this study,to sort out the media images of depression drawn by the media microblogs and reflect on their shortcomings.The study found that the media microblogs mostly portrayed depression as violent and dangerous,and did not show enough of depressed people as ordinary people,which is different from the real-life image of depressed people as actively treated,serious and eager for care.This paper argues that media microblogs present depression with a single theme,one-sided selection of targets,insufficient discourse on depressed people,and some content with professional errors and rough quality.By analysing the causes of both media and social factors,the paper proposes that "the media should strengthen their sense of social responsibility","cooperate with hospitals to launch depression-related science and publicity activities"."media workers should systematically supplement."It is suggested that the media should provide more channels for depressed people to voice their opinions,increase the presentation of positive images of depressed people,guide people to gradually raise their awareness of depression,reduce their sense of shame,and create public opinion conducive to the recovery of depressed people.The media should provide more channels for people with depression to raise their voices,increase the presentation of positive images of people with depression,guide people to gradually raise their awareness of depression,reduce their sense of stigma and create an environment conducive to the recovery of people with depression.
