Research On The Media Support Of The New Generation Of Migrant Workers In Urban Integration By The Party News

Since the economic reform and open up,the group of migrant workers has always been inseparable with the process of urbanization and modernization development in China.In 2010,the No.1 document of the CPC Central Committee put forward the "new generation of migrant workers" group for the first time,making it clear that "efforts should be made to solve the urbanization problem of the new generation of migrant workers".Today,however,due to a variety of practical factors,the new generation of migrant workers,despite having more knowledge and skills than their parents and gaining more supportive national policies,still face difficulties in integrating into the city.Studies of rural migrant workers into cities,which had more attention from the perspective of political science,sociology,involved in the field of journalism and communication scholars have some,but mostly focused on the micro level media as the tools of technology or the influence of the products of its content,and less focus on the media as a macro symbol resources of new generation migrant workers into the supporting role of city.This paper mainly in the perspective of the theory of Pierre Bourdieu symbolic capital,discourse as the research object,by the party newspaper of2010-2019 the central communist party newspaper,the People's Daily,local party newspaper,Nanfang daily and Henan daily,constructing party newspaper as authoritative symbol resources is how to use symbolic power,provide media support for the new generation of migrant workers.The study found that the central and local party newspapers attached great importance to the new generation of migrant workers from the position of a positive city into support.The newspapers emphasized the discourse authority and influence of party and government management,combining the factual reports and view reports,create a glorious group image,guide urban migrants integrate relevant policy discussions,and eased the contradiction between urban and rural areas.However,the media support of Party newspapers also showed discontinuity in the time line and significant discourse tendency,which was embodied in the support intensity(i.e.,the number of reports)moving up and down with the central and local policies,and the support dimension(i.e.,the reported topics)paying more attention to "economic integration" than to "institutional integration" and "cultural integration".From the perspective of government game,the central and local party newspapers were influenced by the different economic goals,institutional beliefs and cultural backgrounds of the central and local governments,so there were obvious differences in supporting strategies and strength.In a word,following the national macro strategy of New urbanization and "people-oriented" government's requirements,party newspapers play a positive role in symbol relief,public opinion support,social mobilization to help new generation migrant workers integrate into cities,however,the communist party newspaper reported consciousness,authoritative discourse of government,the central and local interaction also affect the effectiveness of the party newspaper media support.
