With the continuous development of the fifth generation(5G)mobile communications worldwide, the penetration rate of 5G users continues increasing and innovative 5G-related services will also increase substantially. The wireless channel as the transmission medium in the communication system has a significant impact on the communication performance. The development of 5G and future communications cannot be separated from the study of channel models that are consistent with the corresponding wireless communications environment. The current channel model simulations are not comprehensive.Meanwhile, few scholars have made a comprehensive and objective comparative analysis of the current mainstream channel models. Therefore,in this paper, combining the respective conditions and characteristics of the current mainstream 5G channel models, three of the mainstream channel models are selected, namely Qua DRi Ga,NYUSIM and MG5 G channel models.Taking the main application scenarios and key technologies of 5G as the starting point, this paper conducts detailed simulation and analysis on the modeling strategies and characteristics of these three models, and puts forward some conclusions on the applicability of modeling as references. The research results provide an important reference basis for the theoretical research on channel modeling of 5G and future mobile communications.First of all, based on the main application scenarios of current 5G mobile communications and the propagation characteristics of high-frequency channels, this paper introduces the significance of channel model modeling and the current research status of wireless channel models. This paper introduces the main requirements of 5G high-frequency channel modeling from space, time, and frequency dimensions and briefly describes the current wireless channel modeling method. Then this paper introduces the development and modeling process of the three channel models and summarizes the modeling characteristics of the three models. After that, this article compares the small-scale parameter(SSP)modeling strategies of the three models from the dimensions of space, time, polarization, etc.,and focuses on the modeling methods and evolution process of the three models on the angle, power, delay and other parameters. In addition,a detailed summary of the definitions of the small-scale parameters, clusters and sub-diameters of the three models is made. Finally, based on the modeling strategies of the three models, this paper conducts a series of simulation experiments in the scenarios of urban macro(UMa)and rural macro(RMa).Through the simulations of angular power spectrum(APS),doppler power spectrum density(DPSD),power delay profile(PDP),space-time-frequency correlation function, channel capacity and eigenvalues, etc.,the three models are compared in the spatial, time, and frequency domains. The simulation results show that the modeling method of small-scale parameters and the evolution process of clusters in the space-time dimension have a significant impact on the channel.Based on the simulation results, this paper gives suggestions on the application scenarios of the three models.Qua DRi Ga channel model can accurately describe most of the wireless propagation effects in UMa scenario and will be more suitable for changing UMa scenario.MG5 G channel model uses the full birth-death process to model the channel nonstationary characteristics. So the channel changes faster and MG5 G is more suitable for the simulation of rapidly changing channel scenarios.NYUSIM channel model adopts the time cluster-space lobe(TCSL)modeling method, which leads to small channel angle expansion and sparse channel. Therefore,it is believed that NYUSIM channel model may be more suitable for the research of RMa scenario. In addition, some suggestions are put forward for the modeling strategy of the channel model in combination with the above work. This paper only compares the current three 5G mainstream channel models and there are some other models that have further research work to be completed. Therefore, there are plans to study more mainstream 5G channel models for a more comprehensive comparison next to provide more reference for channel modeling. In addition, the research of 6G wireless communication has received more and more attention. As can be seen, the above three models should better adapt to the new propagation characteristics associated with 6G application scenarios.6G has also adopted some new technologies, such as holographic radio, intelligent reflective surface, and artificial intelligence communication. The modeling of these new technologies will be further considered to be added to these channel model.
