The Man Booker Prize(formerly known as the Booker Prize)is one of the most prestigious literary prizes in the UK and the world. From 1969 to 2019,a total of 54 Man Booker Prize-winning works have been published, and 39 have been introduced and published by domestic publishers. The French sociologist Escarpment believes that translation is creative, giving new life to the original work in another cultural environment, expanding its readership and extending its lifespan. The Man Booker Prize is a translation theory that uses the 5W framework of the basic elements of communication to analyse the subject of translation, the content of translation, the process of translation and the feedback of translation in close connection with the publication, and to examine the translation elements of the introduced books in the process of content communication. The introduction of Man Booker Prize winning works in China has gone through three stages: the window period, the blowout period and the stable period, and the publishing houses as the main body of introduction have also synchronized the three processes of individual publishing houses testing the waters, professional publishing houses blossoming and private cultural companies emerging.Although the new situation of cooperation between private companies and large publishing groups has emerged, statistics on the introduction of works by 32 award-winning authors show that Shanghai Translation Publishing House,Yilin Publishing House and other traditional professional publishing houses still have an absolute advantage. At present, the Man Booker Prize works are mainly published in two ways: "before the award and during the copyright period" and "after the award and bidding for the copyright",with market characteristics such as supporting the sales of films and dramas,best-selling serious literature and obvious sales disparity. The analysis of the Man Booker Prize works from the perspective of translation theory can be divided into five elements: translation subject, translation content, translation channel, reader feedback and translation strategy from the perspective of communication. In addition to the translator's professionalism and linguistic skills, domestic publishers also need to consider whether the translator has sufficient cultural skills and professional background related to the content of the work. However,in the process of introducing a book for publication, the selection of a text hides behind arguments and coordination between the translator and the author, editor and publisher, etc. The selection of any work for translation and publication and distribution is a complex socio-cultural event. The role played by translators is not limited to providing translated texts, but they are sometimes also tasked with coordinating between various parties, such as foreign authors who do not understand Chinese and editors who do not understand foreign languages, and the final formation of a translation is the result of the combined effect of all these factors. Therefore, the introduction of foreign awardwinning works for publication needs to advocate the subjectivity of translators, broaden the ways of translation and mediation, and make good use of translation and mediation strategies, thus ensuring the market and cultural benefits of the introduction of books for publication.
