The “Corona Virus Disease 2019”(COVID-19)at the end of 2019 exposed the public to great risks. At the same time, the rapid development of social media also provides great convenience for the public to search for information. The large-scale spread of the new epidemic has induced the public to search for information related to the COVID-19 with high frequency and intensity. The purpose of this paper is to empirically study the public's information searching behavior and influencing factors under the joint action of major epidemic and new media ecology. This research according to the theory of planned behavior, risk information search and processing model as the main theoretical basis, using the research methods of questionnaire and semi-structured interview,to the national public as the object of investigation, respectively at the outbreak of epidemic stage(January 28-February 6,2020),the number of confirmed cases of explosion stage(February 7-17,2020),the epidemic prevention and control effect of the initial stage(on February 18-28,2020),three phases collection was conducted in a month of time, and in March to May,2020,a total of three months to interview the typical sampling.A total of 682 valid questionnaires were collected, and then the relevant data were analyzed by SPSS(24.0)for T-test and variance analysis,as well as correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. It was found that the public's search behavior changed significantly with the time frame of the epidemic development.Multiple regression analysis results showed that the demographic variables such as age(p = 0.00),the number of confirmed patients in the city(p = 0.00),the information adequacy(p = 0.003),perceived risk characteristics(p= 0.001),and searching attitude(p = 0.014)of the risk information searching and processing model,a total of five variables p < 0.01,which indicates that they have significant effects on the public's information searching behavior at the 0.01 level during the epidemic period.
