Information Searching Process (ISP) Model is one of the most influential information behavior models, Kuhlthau divided the users’ information search process into six stages, and analyzed feelings, thoughts and actions modes accompanied with each stage. ISP model based on the traditional library environment at first, mainly focus on students studying in school. The research of ISP model provides a new vision for the library information service that makes the ISP model become the mainstream of information behavior model. The purpose of this study is to explore students’ academic information search modes and whether the modes of students’ academic information search conform to ISP model and provide recommendation ideas for improving the academic information system design. The study first discusses the origin、evolution and application of the ISP model, then built new research concept model based on the original ISP model. We use college students as research samples to represent student user, use questionnaires and statistical analysis method to study the basic modes of students’ academic information search, and modes of student users’ thoughts, feelings and actions during academic information search process, the results show education plays an important role in student users’ information search process, students’ academic information search process broadly in line with the description of ISP model, but students’ feelings, thoughts and actions is affected by different factors. From the results of the statistical analysis, combined with the thought of Donald. A. Norman’s emotional design. We give some recommendations to improve the academic information system design:1. accurately identifying the information needs that the students unknown; (2) to maintain the interaction with the student during their information search process; 3. ensure the unblocked of communication and feedback channels.
