“Third line construction” is the central committee of the communist party of China in the mid-1960-s made a major strategic decision,to the eastern part of the technology, talent, equipment, continuously to the Midwest, its main purpose is to cope with the increasingly tense international environment,to strengthen the combat readiness, ensure the security of national defence, changing productivity layout in our country.During the construction period,a large number of factories, workers and their families from first-tier areas(coastal and northeastern areas)and some second-tier areas migrated inland, thus forming millions of third-tier migrants. These “Third-line people”have played an important role in promoting the economic transformation and modernization in western China. In recent years, the media and society have highly focused on the “Third-tier people”.However, there were also their minor children who followed the “Third-tier people” into the west. These second-generation third-tier people left their hometown at an early age and moved to unfamiliar places, which also had a huge impact on their growth.Generation has experienced “Three line”,also witnessed the “Three line” withdrawal, from the 1960 s to now, three line community also great changes have taken place, from the early the fusion of relatively closed till now and place the community changes on the identity of the second generation of three line people what has happened, this is this article focus on the problem.Depth interview method used in this paper, the choice of N city three wire enterprise C factory representative of the second generation of the three line as the research object, based on the principle of information saturation, combined from the plant 22 in the second generation of three lines, the researchers used encoding analysis of interview data, analyzes the third-tier community change on the impact of their identity. This paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter focuses on the identity of the second generation of third-tier people in their youth. The results show that: on the one hand, the second generation of third-tier people first arrived in the “Third-tier area”,and they were confused about their identity due to the unknown reasons of migration and environmental adaptation. On the other hand, through the uniqueness of the “Third-tier factory”,the influence of the“boundary consciousness” of the first generation of third-tier people, and self-confirmation,they completed the division of their own group boundary. On the other hand, under the special community model of “Third-tier factory”,the second-generation third-tier people have changed their own identity in the growth process of their youth.First, they are isolated because of their long geographical isolation.Secondly, the unique community language--“factory and mining Mandarin”becomes their identity in language.Thirdly, the community culture gradually formed through the accumulation of time--“factory and mining culture” strengthens their identity consciousness. Finally, economic differences are the key to their identity. Thus, the identity of “third-tier people” is gradually established and constantly strengthened in their hearts. The second chapter analyzes the identity of the second generation of third-tier people when they are adults. On the one hand, through the establishment and maintenance of collective norms, the “Third-line factory” has constructed the identity consciousness of the second generation of third-line people. On the other hand, through the special network of social relations in the acquaintance society, the second generation of third-tier people weave a sense of belonging to the group, which further enhances their identity of “Third-tier people”.At the same time, with the passage of time of the second generation of third-tier people living in the place where they moved, their memory of their original hometown is fading away, which also brings the second generation of third-tier people to pull away from and break their original regional identity. The third chapter explains the mobility of the identity of the second generation of third-tier people.During the “Third Line Construction” period, the first generation of the Third Line people completed the material flow from the east to the west.Through the communication between the “Third Line people” and the local people, the spiritual integration between the east and the west was realized, and the central role of the “Third Line Factory” in politics, economy and culture was highlighted. In the period of reform and opening up,the third-tier enterprises have re-flowed on the material level. On the spiritual level, the identity consciousness of the second generation of third-tier people is once again faced with the plight of flow. They have evolved from the firm “Third-tier people” to “don't know where they are”.And the central position of “Third-line factories” is also gradually fading under the trend of economic development.China into a period of rapid development of reform and opening up,the flow has become a common state of Chinese life, the second generation of the three lines are also faced with new identity in the social mobility problems, their identity of group has a tendency to flow again, they use social media and offline practice again to complete the establishment of identity,In this flow process, the group identity is constantly maintained.Throughout the whole growth process of the second generation of third-tier people, whether they are teenagers or adults, their personal identity is always changing, and the fluidity of their identity is also the mirror image of China's modernization process.Just like the thousands of migrant workers in the tide of reform and opening up after the“Third-line people”,it is these floating groups that have made important contributions to the exploration and practice of the path of China's modernization.Although identities are in flux, these “restless hearts” are all condensed in the picture of China's modernization.
