Terahertz,which is sandwiched between traditional microwave and optical frequencies,has brought more and more interests on behalf of its high potential in imaging,sensing and communacations.In terahertz frequencies,the requirments of chip-to-chip interconnect is increasing greatly due to the high data rate and huge data capacity of terahertz systems.However,the bandwidth and efficiency supportable by conventional chip I/O pins cannot keep up with the requirments of terahertz systems,which forms an increasing gap between the bandwidth requirement and support capability,or the interconnect gap.THz interconnect holds high portential to boost key performance by leveraging the advantages of terahertz systems.So,the Terahertz chip-to-chip interconnect has brought more and more interests of researching.In this article,we mainly focus on the research and design of chip-to-chip interconnect based on CMOS technology.Firstly,in the first chapter of this article,I mainly introduced the previous research on terahertz chip-to-chp interconnect,which included two main streams of technique:electrical interconnect and optical interconnect.I also analyze the previous design of THz chip-to-chip interconnect on their pros and cons,and gives some comments in advance.In the second chapter,I mainly introduced the technique method and related theory.I clearly introduced the theory about rectangular dielectric waveguide.The dimensons of rectangular dielectric waveguide is calculated and simulated.The difficulties and potential breakthrough points in designing the interconnect structure based on CMOS technology is analyzed,and the theory of “leaky wave” is briefly introduced in the second chapter.The third chapter introduces a wideband fully integrated chip-to-chip interconnect structure.Its coupler is based on the GCPW which means that a balun or mode converter is not needed.It has very simple configuration,and no additional loss is introduced.The fourth chapter introduces another wideband chip-to-chip interconnect structure,which is used to verify the theory of CPW coupler in board level.Moreover,the test structure and the test plans are given in the fourth chapter.
