At the end of 2019,the new coronavirus(COVID-19)became the focus of social attention after it was detected in Wuhan.For a time,the public's memory of Wuhan city was awakened,and the stigmatization of the city followed.As a place for public memory production and a carrier of memory inheritance,the city preserved the material and spiritual heritage for the communication activities of inter-city groups.Provide material evidence for the storage and presentation of collective memory.City memory is not only the public's perception of the physical space of a city,but also the record of the region's politics,economy,culture,and life.Urban memory is not a true copy of the people and events that happened in the city in the past as in historical documents,but is reconstructed based on a certain framework after the occurrence of "facts".From the perspective of the media's orientation to urban memory,this article analyzes the content of 7 media We Chat public account news reports(559 articles in total),and uses agenda setting theory and framework theory to analyze what kind of picture of Wuhan was recorded by the mass media during the epidemic.What kind of mechanism is used to guide the public to choose and update Wuhan city memory? In addition,the questionnaire survey is used to verify whether the public's memory of Wuhan city is consistent with the media memory presented by the mass media.As an intermediary force,the media modifies the memory of the city through texts,images,etc.,and gives meaning to the context in which it is located.The media We Chat official account plays a role in recording,emphasizing,and awakening in the process of guiding urban memory.The study found that the public set up emotional agendas for the public in 7 media,and their news reporting attitudes positively affected the public memory of Wuhan city,and the rhetoric of news reporting affected the public's memory of Wuhan city symbols.In addition,the public,as the receivers of news reports,will be guided by media news topics,and this influence will show differences due to the length of time the public has been in contact with Wuhan.
