| In view of the rapid development of new media technology,news production is experiencing digitalization in the technological iteration,and data news as one of the products.Its visual representation is in line with current readers' manner of interpreting information,introducing an avante-garde graphic reading experience.By integrating rich data into news and presenting it in a visual form,data journalism can reform and innovate the traditional news mode while presenting its narration with more diversified and complex characteristics.The current research demonstrates that data journalism focuses primary on visualization and practice.Yet when data is used in news,it is necessary to recognize that news topic setting and meaning transmission intend to primarily narrate the article clearly.Therefore,building from the theoretical perspective of news narratology,this paper attempts to take Xinhuanet,one of the pioneers of data journalism practice in China,as an example to conduct an in-depth discussion on Xinhuanet from five aspects:narrator,narrative perspective,narrative language,narrative space and time,and narrative acceptance.Research have found that data news in Xinhuanet predominantly exhibit the following narrative characteristics:foremost,in order to prevent complex and pluralistic narrators from heavily affecting the final presentation of the narrative text,narrators are hidden behind the visual symbol system which causes the expression of the narrative text to be more objective and calm—interactive technology enables readers to engage in the narrative process and fosters the illusion of"the death of the author";Second,Xinhuanet data news' narrative perspective displays a combination of multiple narrative perspectives dominated by the zero-focus narrative perspective,integrating the external focus perspective and the internal focus perspective.That is,the perspective overlooks the whole picture with the all-knowing "God's eye" as well as experiencing the news scene by "feeling the reality".Third,the data news of Xinhuanet merges multiple narrative languages such as text,picture,and sound together while considering to introduce cutting-edge media technologies such as VR and virtual simulation.The integration sought to not only present news visibly,but also can be heard and felt,thus mobilizing readers' whole-sense participation.Fourthly,the multi-directional and multi-dimensional network narrative time breaks the shackles of linear narration and offers more possibility for readers' reading.The separated narrative time in interactive data news narrative provides readers with more rights as it depends on readers'participation in the narrative.The geological space construction emphasizes the reproduction of the physical world,which sheds light into news' authenticity and objectivity.Moreover,the creation of chronotope promotes the narrative process and reflects the characteristics of visual form that leads to a spatiotemporal fusion.Text space is more embodied in the construction of readers'psychological space,which relies on technology to bring readers a "real" sense of participation;Fifth,the empowerment of technology in the modern era awakens the subjective consciousness of news receivers,who not only passively accept news information,but also actively participate in the narrative process.The narrative expectation of the receiver transforms from the most basic information acquisition to information verification,and from the most fundamental physiological needs to satisfying higher social and emotional needs.The acceptance of Xinhuanet's data news narrative is embodied in the news receiver's highly immersive reading experience of the news text and the receiver's individualized interpretation of the news text. |
