A Study On Fans' Self-image Reproduction In The Context Of New Media

With the development of my country's entertainment and cultural undertakings and the changes in media technology,the size of the fan community continues to expand,becoming a social force that cannot be ignored.Fans are often regarded as a collection of crazy and irrational individuals,but they are also improving their voice through various practices and actively performing outwards.There is a rich and complex fan culture and group identity production mechanism behind star chasing.This article mainly focuses on "fans' re-understanding of the object image given by the social structure,and the reproduction of the subject image as the constructor".In practice,it answers the question of "how fans can achieve image reshaping and performance",and in theory Respond to the changes and results of fans' behaviors.The article is based on reproduction theory and exhibition/performance theory,using in-depth interviews and qualitative research methods of online ethnography to investigate the practice of fan image reproduction.The study found that fans present images of "controllers of the entertainment industry","blind supporters of idols" and "destroyers of social order" from the perspective of others,showing the characteristics of spectacle,labeling,and stigmatization.Mainly affected by fans themselves,commercial capital and general audiences.Fans' perception of self-image is divided into two situations,one is the separation of "social self" and "psychological self",and the other is the separation of individual and group.The motivation for the reproduction of fan image originates from three aspects: fans themselves,idols and media empowerment.In the context of new media,fans gather in cyberspace,and the online fan community has become the basic unit of fan survival.Through clear communication norms and operation mode,it has internal and external functions.Fans conduct self-discipline,support for charity,and participate in public political affairs under the regulation and mobilization of the online fan community,thereby regenerating the image of fans who are careful in words and deeds,rational and good,and patriotic and progressive.Fans' self-image reproduction allows fans to go from focusing on idols to actively participating in society,making fan culture as a youth subculture interact with mainstream culture,forming a structural force that cannot be ignored.But because of this,fans are also under the discipline of mainstream ideology,which keeps the "self" shrinking,and the collective actions of fans can easily lead to internal collective unconsciousness and group polarization.
