Research On The Identification Of Modern Book Versions Based On Machine-readable Catalogue

Reading as a basic way to improve the quality of the population,in recent years,is getting more attention from the society,and there are many reading recommendations and guide activities held by various cultural institutions,aiming to encourage people to read more books.The book version is an important factor for people to choose books for reading,because the quality of the book version will directly affect the reading effect.Compared with the ancient books,the modern books have only a history of about 100 years.With the development of publishing technology and publishing environment,the version types of modern books show a large number of characteristics,not only the physical version and electronic virtual version,but also other various version types that have been adapted,such as rewritten,abbreviated and translated from the content.As the key institution of collection,preservation and utilization of literature,the library not only has massive book resources,but also is the main body of reading promotion.Because librarians pay no attention to the version of modern books,only their basic information described in the machine-readable catalogue.Any more,it is very difficult to describe the version of modern books completely because of the different description rules used in book description,the vague description of books version in publications and the different professional level of cataloguers.When users search through the OPAC system,they get only part of the book version data presented in the form of lists,which is not conducive for readers to choose the appropriate version for reading.Therefore,this paper used the machine-readable catalogue data to identify and collect different versions of the same modern book.Firstly,this paper defined the core concepts of modern book version,the same book and different versions of the same book,which were the solid theoretical foundation for book version mining research.At the same time,this paper reviewed the research status at home and abroad from three aspects,including analytical bibliography,the description of book version and the methods of book version concentration.It revealed that the researchers in the field of book version payed more attention on practice rather than theory,more attention on ancient classics rather than modern books,and more attention on physical version rather than electronic virtual version.It was difficult to meet the requirements of book version aggregation using the mothod of the item linking,the standard control,the auxiliary differentiation or the association analysis,so it was necessary to research on the the mining of modern book version.Next,this paper discussed the version form of the modern books,summarized the features related to the book version according to the principle of the version type division,and explained the material form and content form in detail.Then,based on the in-depth analysis of the data format of the machine-readable catalogue,this paper identified the fields related to the book version and bulid the mining model of the modern book version to explore the method and technology of collecting the same modern book version resource.Finally,this paper selected 45 modern novel works and the National Library's machine-readable catalogue data for empirical research.The results show that the mining model can effectively identify different versions of the same book from the machine-readable catalogue database.When the number of variation titles of the book is more,the version recognition effect is stronger,which proves the validity of this model.To sum up,this paper made a comprehensive analysis of the concept of the book version,the type of modern book version and the version fileds in the machine-readable catalogue data,and constructed a model for mining the modern book version resource from the machine-readable catalogue data.The research results can provide expansion and support for the book recommendations and guide,publishing,academic research and the theoretical and practical research of analytical bibliography.
