Identity Construction In The News Report: Framework Analysis Of The "Belt And Road" Issue Of ToI

The convening of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation means that the construction of the“Belt and Road”formally shifted from the “big freehand” stage to the “work drawing” "stage.At this stage,until the beginning of 2020,South Asia's "axiality"power India did not join.India's attitude also affects some“pro-Indian”countries along BRI,which makes India's true attitude towards the“Belt and Road”and India's status on the“Belt and Road ” issue become issues that need to be understood now.The study uses the"Interpretive package" theoretical analysis path to carry out a text analysis of the "Belt and Road" report of the The Times of India,summarizes the "Belt and Road" interpretive packages,frame devices and frame characteristics,and relies on post-constructivism theory about language,Identity and the theoretical logic of international relations,with the help of the analysis of the reporting framework to explore the Indian self-identity,social identity in the“Belt and Road”issue.Based on the "Interpretive package",here this study selects 145 reports from the The Times of India and summarizes seven "Interpretive package","Indian Resist BRI","Negative Impact of BRI ","Indian's Good Diplomatic Engagement under BRI Pressure ","Members speak for BRI" and "BRI Develops Well".Further analysis of the packages reveals that the "Interpretive package" of The Times of India BRI reporting are diverse,but the framework is negative.The Times of India has both "self-interest" and "insight" for the choice of reporting materials and the construction of the framework.The content of the report lacks in-depth discussion of the conflict causal chain,and even some fake news will appear in order to badmouthing BRI.But on the whole,there are also compromises in the reporting framework.For example,the report repeatedly emphasized that India 's resistance to the BRI is simply because BRI violated its sovereignty;for example,the negative reports rarely use contributions from India.Based on the BRI reporting framework of The Times of India,this study further analyzes the identity construction in the report from the perspective of constructivism.In The Times of India reports,India's positioning on the "Belt and Road" issue is a big country with a voiceand popular.At the level of identity construction with the "other",India maintains good diplomatic relations with major countries such as China,the United States,Japan,and Australia,while maintaining a natural affinity identity with neighboring countries in South Asia.This further reflects India's a strong sense of self-esteem.Based on the framing analysis and identity construction analysis,this study proposes to some thought from the perspectives of communication concepts,communication principles and communication strategies : Identity cognition construction guides the various national actors to establish friendly relations;Strengthening the top-level,coordinating all aspects of communication power,forming a collaborative communication mechanism with India;Understand India's information needs for BRI,then adopt "Accurate Communication Strategy" for India;Adopting microscopic narrative to complete the communication of the BRI grand issue.
