In wireless sensor networks(WSN),the routing algorithm is used to transmit data monitored by sensors to sink. Its performance is very important, and it has always been a research hotspot. The serious limitation of resources brings great challenges to the design of WSN routing algorithms.WSN routing algorithm based on minimum hops has been widely concerned for its easy implementation, simple maintenance and less latency. This paper puts forward the improvement measures to solve the problems of WSN routing algorithm based on minimum hops. The main work is as follows:(1)This paper establishes WSN system model based on hops and path signal quality, introduces the design idea of the routing algorithm, and defines path signal quality, path packet arrival rate, path packet loss rate, and average packet energy consumption.(2)A WSN routing algorithm based on hop count and path signal quality is proposed.Sink broadcasts routing discovery packet which includes hop count, path signal quality, node residual energy and other parameters. After receiving the route discovery packet, each neighbor node takes out the header information of the packet, and evaluates the new path by path quality evaluation criteria. If it is better than the existing path, the existing path is updated, and the new path information is rebroadcasted. When routing discovery packet is spread throughout the network, each node finds the optimal path to sink.(3)A wireless sensor network simulation framework is established on OMNET++ simulation platform. The proposed routing algorithm HPSQR is compared with EEDR and MHR.The experimental results show that the average packet arrival rate of HPSQR is 9.34% higher than that of EEDR and 29.91% higher than that of MHR.The average packet energy consumption of HPSQR is 5.26% lower than that of EEDR and 8.71% lower than that of MHR.The main innovation of this paper is that HPSQR uses the path signal strength instead of the signal strength of a single link as the basis for routing selection. The path signal strength reflects the quality of all links between the node and sink. The path signal strength is more global and can optimize data transmission path, thus effectively improving the packet reception rate of the network and saving the energy of the network.
