| This study investigates the attitudes of 32 interviewees towards Artificial intelligence(AI)news by employing Q-Technique.The research is carried out to clarify the responsibilities and industry status of AI robots and journalists.The researchers intended to put forward suggestions on establishing the man-machine harmonious environment.Another purpose of this study is to provide reference for the domestic research based on Q-methodology in the field of journalism and communication.The present study mainly uses Q-methodology to analyze the subjective views and attitudes of the interviewees towards AI news.The specific steps are shown as follows:1.Q-population.The present study collects Q statements via interviews,literature review,browsing We-media and portal sites.Each statement is simplified and modified.2.Q-sample.To design a balanced block for reference.36 statements with representativeness are selected to make up for Q sample.To be sure that these statements include as many views related to AI news as possible.3.P-set.With respect to the balance and diversity of interviewees,the subjects consist of three parts: persons engaged in artificial intelligence,persons engaged in journalism,and non-professionals.4.Q-sorting.This study designs a quasi-normal distribution answer sheet with bilateral symmetry.Interviewees are asked to place a number corresponding to a statement on an answer sheet according to the degree of their agreement or disagreement.The reasons for choosing extreme statements and detailed personal information should be recorded.5.Data analysis.PQ Method 2.35 is used to analyze the data drawn from Q-sorting.Data analysis includes factor analysis,factor rotation,factors interpretation.6.Descriptive analysis.This study identifies the attitudes of three types of interviewees towards AI news according to the analysis results: pessimistic conservatism,firm technicalism and objective rationalism.The difference statements and consensus statements of three types are analyzed in detail,and the conclusions are as follows: Each type of interviewees has difference attitudes towards AI news.Generally speaking,the subjects are commonly concerned about the technical limitations of AI,the social responsibility of media organizations and the industry status of journalists.The present study further discusses the three aspects of AI news and come to a conclusion: At present,it is in the stage of weak artificial intelligence.AI robots can simply complete basic but intricate works of data collection,data handling,data edit,news distribution and users’ feedback instead of human beings.However,the spirit and value of news should be completed by human beings.Therefore,journalists are unlikely to be replaced completely by AI robots on news production.In order to consummate the man-machine cooperation,this study proposes critical implications.The first,strengthen the awareness of media organizations and journalists as gatekeepers on the context,affection and values.Secondly,the division of labor between AI robots and journalists should be refined in journalism organizations.It is necessary to establish regulations to strengthen accountability mechanisms.The third,departments concerned should innovate the mode of cultivating journalist talents.Compound talents grasping journalism and technology are inevitable requirements.What’s more,implementing interdisciplinary communication and cooperation are equally desirable. |
