Sichuan opera,a local opera mainly popular in the Bashu region,is now recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage project.Compared with other opera genres,The formation of Sichuan opera is accompanied by the demographic and cultural structural changes in the Bashu region.On the base of local high-pitched tune and lantern show,Sichuan opera combined tunes of Kun opera and other Chinese operas,covering Kun tune,high-pitched tune,Huqin,Tanxi and lantern show tone.Sichuan opera,with its resounding and spirited unaccompanied singing,lively and rhythmic gong and drum beats,humorous dialect and its inclusiveness,is of great value to the study of Chinese operas.As time goes on,the cultural space for traditional performing arts has changed,and the inheriting and developing of Sichuan opera is faced with many difficulties,as with many intangible cultural heritages.In the meantime,museums are welcoming great opportunities for development as important cultural agencies.In recent years,the denotation of museums has been expanding,bringing possibilities for preserving intangible cultural heritages.Museums' advantages in professional talents,scientific research,venues,publicity and education have ensured facilities,personnel and technical support needed.Now,several museums themed by local operas have already been established,carrying out exploration of intangible cultural heritage preservation.This paper introduces the niche theory into Sichuan opera's sustainable development and aims to analyze the ecological niche of modern Sichuan opera in terms of niche breadth,trend,expansion,overlap and separation.Compared to traditional cultural space,Sichuan opera has shown new features over years of development,including diversified forms of performance,fixed venues of performance,less focus on scenes and a trend toward exhibition.Sichuan opera has transformed from traditional street theatre to a palace art of the new era.This paper takes Chongqing Sichuan Opera Museum as an example and discusses the preservation of Sichuan opera by museums from the view of ecological niche.In this paper,centered on museums' resources and advantages,the author proposes building dominant niche for Sichuan opera's sustainable development to the fulfillment of museums' important role in the preservation and inheriting of Sichuan opera.
