According to the report released by the National Bureau of statistics,the total number of migrant workers in 2018 is 288.36 million.With the low labor cost provided by migrant workers,China has a strong advantage in the world economic pattern,creating the second largest economic volume in the world.However,it can not be ignored that in the early days of rural labor entering the city,the social image of migrant workers is often tied up with a series of social ills.In such a social context,the Chinese government has planned to build five mwms(migrant worker museums)in large cities.This paper will refer to the research perspective of "New Museum Theory" to study the culture of this special museum type.The new museum theory,also known as critical Museum theory,is no longer limited to the specific operation level of museum practice,but turns to the more fundamental existence basis and operation logic of this social institution.Based on the case study of Shenzhen(Bao'an)Museum of labor and industry,the "place of memory" with the Museum of migrant workers as the medium,this paper uses participatory observation and data analysis method to analyze the visual elements of the museum,such as the appearance of buildings,photos,real scenes,sculptures and so on,in order to answer the memory content presented by the Museum of migrant workers under the leadership of the government,which is to establish a glorious and docile agriculture The body image of migrant workers;emphasis on individual struggle to achieve self class circulation;advocate the memory of national care,policy support and assistance.Furthermore,through in-depth interviews and participatory observation,and comparing with the Beijing picun migrant Museum independently established by the people,it is found that in the memory space constructed by Shenzhen migrant workers,industrial heritage is regarded as the "memory field",local memory overlaps with national memory,and official memory and folk memory are divided.Through the process of changing and misappropriating the context,describing and naming the object,the object is constructed as a symbolic existence with meaning function,which is also an ideological process,which promotes the memory practice of visitors' explanation and photography.The museum has also become a political space for local government leaders to contact and communicate with their superiors,with the generation and creation of political rights.At the same time,as an educational base,the Museum of migrant workers began to focus on the purpose of human education,and also transmitted the urban culture.There is a profound paradox in the Museum of migrant workers,which has been rebuilt as a memorial place: for the purpose of preserving the authenticity,preserving these places inevitably means losing the authenticity.The purpose of this paper is to make a critical study of the history and power operation mechanism behind cultural institutions,and to think about the possibility of a new and more equal new museum.
