Research On The Construction Of China's Military Image By The Mainstream Media In Singapore

Singapore plays an important role in geopolitics.It is the link between China and the western world.At the same time,Singapore has strong military strength.In terms of military cooperation,it has close ties with the United States,but lacks close ties with China.With China becoming more and more close to the center of the world stage,the importance of international communication in shaping China's international image is increasingly prominent.Therefore,how to report and construct China's military image is the focus and interest of this paper.Taking " The Straits Times"," Zaobao" and " Berita Harian" as the research objects,taking 198 reports of the three on "Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning" as examples,this paper use the three-tier framework theory of Zang Guoren,a Taiwan scholar in China,as well as the methods of content analysis and comparative analysis,to explore the reporting framework of English media,Chinese media and Malay media in Singapore's mainstream media and the way in which the three media build the reporting framework,and how to improve China's response to Foreign military reports put forward the corresponding countermeasures.It is found that the reporting framework of the Straits Times is "China's military threat framework",reflecting China's "expanding and threatening" military image.The report framework of Zaobao is "China's active defense framework",reflecting China's military image of "active defense".Berita Harian tends to be an objective and neutral framework,reflecting China's military image as a "defense power".The Chinese military image presented by Singapore's mainstream media is complex and mottled,among which,it is more inclined to the military image of "expansion and threat".This paper argues that the framework formation of mainstream media in Singapore has deep reasons.The influence of political environment and ideology,the role of international relations,the differences in the practice of reporting ideas,and the appeal of audience groups are all important factors.This paper puts forward the corresponding enlightenment thinking from the two aspects of optimizing the top-level design of China's military communication and the overseas communication of Chinese media,in order to improve China's military communication and maintain China's military image.
