Routing protocol is a key communication protocol in Wireless Sensor Network(WSN),which has an extremely important impact on the performance of WSN.Compared with the traditional deterministic route, opportunistic routing considers adequately the broadcast characteristics, time variability and interference irregularity of the wireless channel, improves significantly the throughput and transmission reliability of the wireless multi-hop network.Opportunistic routing has therefore become one of the hotspots in wireless sensor network routing protocols. However, most of the existing opportunistic routing protocols run under the continuous working state of the node, which causes excessive energy consumption of the network node. The strategy of combining low-duty cycle technology with opportunistic routing mechanism can put the node in the mode of periodic sleep/activity,thus greatly reducing the network energy consumption. In this paper,we study and design a low duty cycle opportunistic routing protocol LDC-OR(Low Duty Cycle Opportunistic Routing)with wireless meter reading as an application background to achieve the goal of reducing energy consumption.Firstly, this paper analyzes the traditional low duty cycle opportunistic routing protocols and points out their shortcomings in energy consumption, node duty cycle scheduling strategy and forwarding node selection.Aiming at the problem of large delay in data transmission caused by periodic dormancy between nodes in WSN with low duty cycle,a method according to the selection strategy of candidate nodes based on geographical location is proposed to reduce the delay caused by asynchronous dormancy scheduling between nodes.Secondly,in view of the existing low duty cycle to unpredictable node transmission energy consumption problems in routing protocol defines a node expect routing cost measure which adopts the historical average total cost of ideas of waiting time delay to network operation phase node and combined transport energy consumption of node transmission power consumption measurement and uses this measure for candidate nodes for priority to reduce the energy consumption of network nodes.Thirdly,to solve the problem that sudden change of link quality leads to the decrease of data transmission success rate, this paper presents a candidate node set coordination strategy. When the link quality of the high-priority candidate nodes change suddenly, the second-priority candidate nodes can be used as forwarding nodes to forward data, which not only improves the data packet reception rate of the network system, but also ensures the reliability of data transmission of each node in the network. Finally, the LDC-OR and ORW protocol are simulated and compared on Matlab experimental simulation platform. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed protocol, the three indexes of energy consumption,end-to-end delay and network life cycle during data transmission were used to verify and adjust the candidate node coordination mode of LDC-OR protocol to improve the reliability of data transmission.Experimental results show that LDC-OR protocol can significantly reduce the energy consumption of nodes while ensuring the success rate of data transmission in the wireless network with low duty cycle, thus effectively prolonging the network life cycle.
