Maps are an important part of the geography curriculum and a carrier of geographic knowledge.A map in the brain is a three-dimensional map formed in students' minds after superimposing different geographical elements and spatial locations. The construction of a map in the brain can cultivate students' core literacy in geography, improve their spatial cognition and knowledge integration ability, and help them apply their geographic knowledge to solve practical problems. The construction of a map in the brain is an important way of learning geography. This paper summarises the research background, significance and current situation of constructing maps in the brain through literature analysis, defines the concept of maps in the brain and proposes the theoretical basis of constructing maps in the brain;uses classroom observation and questionnaire survey to investigate the current situation of constructing maps in the brain of students in a high school in Kunming;analyses the observation results and questionnaire survey results to clarify the problems of constructing maps in the brain of students in regional geography teaching. This paper proposes strategies for constructing brain maps in high school regional geography teaching and the four steps of construction in the teaching process, and applies the strategies for constructing brain maps to actual classroom teaching,in order to shed light on the construction and application of brain maps in regional geography teaching at the high school level. The aim is to shed light on the construction and application of brain maps in teaching regional geography at the senior secondary level. The basic conclusions of this paper are.(1)The problems of constructing maps in the brains of high school students include: the disconnect between geography learning and life reality;the weakness of students' spatial cognitive ability, graphic conversion ability and mapping ability;the lack of awareness of constructing maps in the brains of students and the lack of scientific strategies for constructing maps.(2)The strategy of constructing maps in the brain must be implemented in the learning process, which can be achieved through "the pre-class stage, combining with life, constructing the outline of maps in the brain;classroom learning, combining graphics and text, refining regional geographical information;the post-class stage, drawing and learning, strengthening the memory of maps in the brain;revision and summing up,dovetailing with the college entrance examination, cultivating the ability to read and use maps".The four steps are used to improve the construction of maps in students' brains.(3)The proposed strategy for constructing a map in students' minds was implemented through the teaching case "Russia under the Russia-Ukraine Conflict",and the proposed strategy was effective for most students, assisting them to construct a more complete and clear map in their minds.
