In order to solve the problem that the phenomenon is not obvious when observing the reaction process in the chemistry class, this study starts with the thermal effect of the reaction, allowing students to “observe” the change of the reaction heat, and clarifies the change process of the reaction from the perspective of the reaction heat. The thermal effect in this study was observed with the aid of an infrared thermal imager.Using infrared thermal imager in the classroom can break through the limitation of the naked eyes, expand the scope of visual observation, broaden the angle and field of vision for recognizing and responding to changes, and enable more visual information to enter the students’ sensory system.Using an infrared thermal imager to visually present the unclear or invisible change process of reaction heat in the form of images or videos is one of the characterization methods for process visualization. Therefore,on the basis of brain science theory, information processing theory, and dual coding theory, this paper proposes an application research of material change process visualization based on infrared thermal imaging technology, using infrared thermal imaging technology to intuitively observe the change of thermal effect in the material change process. The paper study is divided into four parts: firstly, the related concepts were defined, and the literature research of the experimental process visualization based on infrared thermal imaging technology was carried out, thereby establishing the theme and procedure of the paper;Besides, the theoretical basis, experimental development and teaching principles was constructed, forming the theoretical basis of the research; Then, the infrared thermal imaging experiments conducted by the research group were sorted out.According to the guidance of experimental development principles and students’ participation in the experiment, the process visualization experiments based on infrared thermal imaging was divided into two categories: process visualization of demonstration experiments and process visualization of exploratory experiments. On the basis of summarizing the general process and method of case development, the visual representation of two kinds of experiments was carried out respectively, and the teaching fragments were designed and developed into corresponding teaching cases. Finally, the experimental process visualization teaching based on infrared thermal imaging technology was studied in practice, and the research results were analyzed by observation method and investigation method to understand the role of experimental process visualization based on infrared thermal imaging technology in teaching. The experimental results show that the experimental process visualization course based on infrared thermal imaging technology is interesting;infrared thermal imaging technology can effectively improve the efficiency of students’ memory by affecting their special attention to images or videos;Students actively participate in the exploration of the reaction process, and their process awareness is improved to a certain extent. What cannot be ignored is the micro-quantification of reagents used in experiments, which can reduce the risk factor, and the improvement of safety can also increase the frequency of students’ scientific inquiry experience, which means it plays an important role in the cultivation of green chemistry concept and in the development of “scientific inquiry and innovation awareness” literacy. This research not only provides chemistry teaching materials for front-line teachers, but also enriches the teaching concept based on infrared thermal imaging technology to a certain extent.
