China is a major country in the world’s cultural and natural heritage,and its historical and cultural heritage is a valuable resource that is not renewable and irreplaceable,and the preservation and transmission of traditional culture is of great historical value and significance.Mortise and tenon joinery is a unique oriental art form that can be used to create a seamless connection between components,reflecting the wisdom and skill of Chinese artisans,and embodying the scientific spirit of exploration and innovation and the craftsmanship of the Chinese people,and is an important part of Chinese traditional culture.The introduction of traditional mortise and tenon work into junior high school art teaching is conducive to the implementation of the national education policy,exploring the aesthetic value of traditional mortise and tenon work,and is also an important step in improving students’ hands-on and creative abilities,preserving and passing on traditional mortise and tenon work,and cultivating and promoting the spirit of Chinese craftsmanship.This paper conducts a practical study of traditional mortise and tenon workmanship in junior high school art teaching through literature research,questionnaire surveys,field research and interviews.Firstly,a student questionnaire survey was conducted to find out the current availability of mortise and tenon crafts courses,and the level of students’ awareness and interest.Secondly,through interviews and research with art teachers and inheritors,the feasibility of teaching traditional mortise and tenon work in junior high school art was determined through an in-depth analysis of the physical conditions for the development of mortise and tenon courses and the educational philosophy that is relevant to the teaching of mortise and tenon practice.Again,the study and analysis were based on the characteristics of the mortise and tenon craft curriculum,and the implementation strategies for the teaching of traditional mortise and tenon craft in junior high school art were summarised in terms of teaching ideas,content and form,providing a basis for the implementation of mortise and tenon practice teaching.At the same time,according to the current situation of the curriculum,students’ physical and mental development characteristics and hands-on abilities,the practical teaching of mortise and tenon work is promoted in a step-by-step manner from the four learning areas: "Mortise and Tenon Work-Ancient Wisdom" in the Appreciation-Review area,"Inheritance-Luban’s Little Apprentice" in the Modelling-Representation area,"Innovation-Mortise and Tenon Designer" in the Design-Application area,and "Creation-Fuel for Learning" in the Comprehensive-Review area.Finally,we reflect on and look forward to this practical teaching,with a view to better teaching traditional mortise and tenon craftsmanship.Through this practical study of traditional mortise and tenon work in junior high school art teaching,students’ love for traditional mortise and tenon work is stimulated,their creative and practical skills are enhanced,and their aesthetic and humanistic qualities are improved,thus realising the aesthetic value of traditional mortise and tenon work,cultivating small inheritors,and promoting the transmission and innovation of traditional mortise and tenon work.
