Applied Research On Cultivating High School Students' Core Literacy In Biology By Using The "Exercises And Applications" Column Of The New Textbook Of The People's Education Edition

With the deepening of the educational system reform,improving the core literacy of high school students has become the core purpose of curriculum design.The publication and application of 2019 PEP edition new textbooks of high school biology reflect the national requirements for students' knowledge,ability and core literacy of biology in the study of high school biology.The “Exercise and Application” column in the new text book caught much attention as an important section of the new teaching material.Therefore,focusing on whether this column can be used effectively,this paper aims at exploring the resources of the textbook deeply to help students develop their biological core literacy in an all-round way with the method of putting the "Exercises and Applications" column into biology teaching practice reasonably.Firstly,an investigation was conducted on the application of the "Exercises and Applications" column in the classroom and the implementation of biological core literacy.The "Exercises and Applications" column in the new textbook was classified as well as compared with the same section in the old and new textbooks,through which the characteristics of the "Exercises and Applications" column of the new textbook was summarized.The results of the investigation indicated that the proportion of basic knowledge exercises in the "Exercises and Applications" column in the new textbook decreased significantly,while the proportion of life situations and science situations exercises increased,featuring science,fun,flexibility,practicality and innovation.Two classes with no significant difference were selected as the experimental class and the control class.The experimental class made full use of the "Exercises and Applications" column of the new textbook as the entry point to infiltrate the classroom teaching mode of biological core literacy while the traditional explanation teaching applied research were tested through the analysis and comparison of the pre-test and post-test results of the two classes.The practical results revealed that the average of the overall level of biological core literacy in the experimental class is 72.4 points,which was higher than 68.6 points in the control class with a significant difference(P=0.031),indicating that the rational application of "Exercises and Applications" column in senior high school biology could improve the core literacy level of students.Further research found that "Exercises and Applications" column had a significant difference of core literacy level on students' life concep(P<0.001),scientific thinking(P<0.001),scientific inquiry(P<0.001)and social responsibility(P<0.001),and the average value of the experimental class was significantly higher than that of the control class,indicating the reasonable application of "Exercises and Applications" column could promote the four dimensions of students' core literacy.In the analysis of students at different levels,"Exercises and Applications" column teaching improved the core literacy of biology for students with good grades by 31.01%,which was significantly higher than that of students with excellent grade(17.79%)and passing grade(29.30%),indicating that the teaching of "Exercises and Applications" column had a more obvious effect on the improvement of biology core literacy of students with good grades.Through interviews with students in the experimental classes and teachers who observed the lessons after the teaching practice,the applied research of cultivating students' biological core literacy using the "Exercises and Applications" column had been supported and recognized by teachers and students.In conclusion,the applied research on cultivating students' biological core literacy by using the "Exercises and Applications" column in this paper is feasible,which not only provids an effective teaching reference for the classroom practice and biology teaching of new biology textbooks in senior high school,but also accumulates certain reference experience for the cultivation of students' biological core literacy.
