With the policy "Several Opinions on Reducing the Burden of Primary and Middle School Teachers and Further Creating a Good Environment for Education and Teaching" issued,and the list of reducing teachers' workload in provinces and cities released,the problem of teachers' workload has been paid more and more attention among society and academia.Unnecessary and unreasonable workload is a problem that needs to be solved urgently,and it is also the premise for the implementation of the education reforms.The author of this paper selects 4 primary schools in the town and countryside,in H City,Shaanxi Province.Meanwhile,to find out the problems of teachers' workload in rural primary schools and supply effective suggestions,this study distributes 198 questionnaires to rural teachers and interviews some of them minutely.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction which expounds the origin,purpose,and significance of the research,defines core concepts such as “teachers' workload”.Furthermore,this paper adopts the methods of literature review,interview,and questionnaire survey to analyze the problem,uses role theory,occupational burnout theory as the theoretical basis.The second part investigates the workload of 198 teachers in 4 primary schools in the town and countryside.The third part studies the results of questionnaire survey and interview,finds out that teachers in rural primary schools are struggling with the long working hours,heavy non-teaching tasks.Besides,teachers who also serve as guidance counselor or come from boarding-school bear a heavier workload.Depending on these problems,the research concludes hazards about the heavy workload on primary teachers in the town and countryside area in the long run.In the fourth part,the research analysis the possible reasons of this phenomena,from the perspectives such as teachers themselves,the school management,and the social cooperation.The fifth part puts forward measures to reduce too much workload of primary school teachers in the town and countryside.First,teachers should carry out scientific management to plan their own work.It requires teachers to make full use of the environment and culture of towns and villages to improve their professional ability;scientifically manage their working time;flexibly handle multiple role relationships;and make reasonable cognitive adjustments to workload.Second,the school should actively implement the policy of reducing the burden on teachers.It requires schools to reform evaluation system;create the love life atmosphere to guarantee campus safety;adopt a people-oriented and efficient teacher management strategy.Third,the society should provide a cooperative environment for teacher burden relief.It requires communities,schools,and families to cooperate and educate people together.Reconstruct the teacher incentive mechanism and encourage teachers to flow to rural schools.Set up special allowances for rural boarding teachers,etc.
