As a kind of picture historical materials,old photos are real and intuitive,and play an important role in history teaching.Especially in the teaching of modern and contemporary Chinese history,old photos are a significant teaching resource.With the eruption of the Opium War and the introduction of western science and technology into China,photography began to become popular in China.So the history of this period was recorded by photographs,which became an important evidence for us to study history.This paper tries to combine the author’s teaching practice experience to solve the problems existing in the using of old photos in real teaching,and discusses how to use old photos in the teaching of modern Chinese history in high school,in order to train students’ ability of historical interpretation and historical thinking,improve students’ core accomplishment of history and make the history teaching resources wealthy.Teacher should use old photos suitably in history teaching to improve the quality of history teaching in high school.The article states three aspects.Firstly,the notion of old photos is defined solely,and the old photos are separated from the concept of historical pictures.This paper introduces the difference between old photos and other historical materials and the classification of old photos.This paper discusses the categories of the old photos in modern times of China,and gives an overall introduction to the old photos to form a complete system.Then,by dispensing questionnaires to the practice schools,this paper investigates the current situation of the application of old photos in the teaching of modern and contemporary Chinese history in high schools,concludes the problems of the using of old photos in the actual teaching,analyzes them,and comes up with strategies.The last part is the key part of this paper,which puts forward the principle of using old photos in history teaching based on relevant investigation and research,and thinks about how to use old photos in the teaching of modern and contemporary Chinese history in high school,bonds with correlative teaching examples.Taking two cases study of Politics,Economy and Culture in the Period of the Northern Government and From the Local War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to the Total War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,this paper raises teaching strategies,and wakes up to the worth of using old photos in history teaching from reality,which will be serviceable to the teaching of modern and contemporary Chinese history in high schools in the future.
