In terms of the definition of people with intellectual disabilities, the mainstream refers to people who are significantly less intelligent than the general population and who have some impairment in their ability to adapt their behaviour in comparison to the general population, while young people with intellectual disabilities refer to those who are in their youth. It is because of their intellectual impairment and the hostility they are sometimes subjected to that young people with intellectual disabilities are unable to participate in society as smoothly as normal people. Therefore, for the majority of young people with intellectual disabilities, special medical rehabilitation is often required to facilitate their social adaptation and to provide them with a sense of inclusion in the community. At present, the State is vigorously implementing community-based rehabilitation services for the mentally handicapped. In the process of doing so,society has paid great attention to the social adaptability and vocational rehabilitation of people with intellectual disabilities, especially young people with intellectual disabilities, although the relevant training is currently slow in progress and the social adaptability of many young people with intellectual disabilities is still low. Therefore, there is an urgent need to address the issue of social adaptation training for young people with intellectual disabilities.Based on this, this paper uses the social work practice of X Street H in Xi'an as a case study. The selection of the subjects for this study was based on the principle of voluntary participation, and the final subjects were chosen based on the medically determined degree of intellectual disability and the actual living conditions of the mentally disabled youths themselves. The main objective of this study is to use the social intervention method of group work in order to provide certain interventions for young people with intellectual disabilities and to promote their social adjustment in the training process.Combining various qualitative methods such as literature research, data analysis, participant observation and interview method to collect data, and based on social support theory, social learning and empowerment theory,we consider the rationality and scientificity of the intervention service,so as to effectively improve the social adaptation ability of the mentally handicapped adolescents.Like this, under the continuous guidance and correction of the social workers, and after several re-education sessions with the service users The social adjustment ability of the mentally handicapped adolescents studied in this paper has been significantly improved. The study found that although it is impossible to improve the self-care ability of the mentally handicapped youths overnight, the social adjustment ability of the mentally handicapped youths will gradually improve with the guidance of the social workers through repeated interventions. It is hoped that the research in this paper will be helpful to adolescents with intellectual disabilities and will provide useful references for other research subjects in the same research area...
