Private boarding schools are inevitable outcome with the development of market economy in China, which mainly solve the problem of public education not meeting the diversified needs of the market.Driven by the wave of educational industrialization, more and more private boarding schools in the compulsory education stage have emerged in China's educationally developed areas, and in normal conditions people's understanding of private schools is mostly based on high tuition fees and rankings according to students' exam results. However,in June 2001,the Ministry of Education issued “The Outline of National Basic Educational Curriculum Reform”,which stated that the tasks of the basic education phase should not only be to impart so-called knowledge, but more importantly,to enable students to have the spirit of active participation in learning and to shape their potential for lifelong learning. In addition, modern research shows that good study habits play a particularly important role in the basic education stage.During this period,it is crucial for students to develop their learning habits especially in the first and second grades of elementary school. Therefore,it is urgent for private boarding schools to coordinate the roles of schools and families, teachers and students, and promote the development of learning habits in the lower grades of primary school. This research is based on MYNSBS,a private primary boarding school in which the author has worked for many years. At the same time,it selects lower grades as a typical case to study the problems of private boarding schools in the cultivation of students' learning habits.Furthermore, this study mainly adopts the following research methods: questionnaire surveys, interviews with teachers and parents and investigates the current situation of the learning habits of the students in the first and second grades from the three dimensions of students, teachers, and parents.According to the survey results, this study analyzes four aspects including school,family,home-school cooperation and identifies problems in the development of learning habits in primary grades, namely, system construction, teacher preparation,home-school communication, and parents' education. In response to the above problems, the following improvement strategies are proposed. In terms of school management,it is advised that we should set up an object system of focusing on cultivating good learning habits, strengthen the staffing of teachers, strengthen the quality of teachers, create a stimulating atmosphere for good study habits, and establish a special mechanism for supervision and inspection.Regarding how parents raise their children,it is proposed that parents should promote their capabilities in education, lead by example to create a good family atmosphere, and take an active part in home-school cooperation with correct attitude. In terms of home-school cooperation, improvement strategies have been proposed for smoothing effective channels for home-school communication, establishing a mandatory home-school communication system, and building a school for parents. This research provides principles that how private boarding schools further improve the target system and institutional system for cultivating learning habits in the lower grades of primary school, and improve the quality of education;specific suggestions on how to create a family atmosphere and improve their own educational attainments for parents of lower grade primary school students in private boarding schools in the cultivation of student learning habits;and a good reference for home-school communication around the cultivation of learning habits.
