| Following the development of Mandarin Chinese international education,the theme-based teaching method has been widely applied in Mandarin Chinese teaching in recent years,especially in primary and secondary schools.However,the business-theme-based Chinese teaching is uncommon.The specific business-theme-based Mandarin Club course,since it is interesting,authentic and practical,can raise students’ interest in learning Chinese and promote their cognitive development as well as critical thinking.Meanwhile,a business-theme-based course can also solve and address some of the existing problems of Mandarin Club course.In this thesis,the research background is the secondary school education in UK;the main research object is Mandarin Club course.The business-theme-based Chinese course design,as the research focus,combined with teaching implementation,aims to provide a reference for Mandarin Club teaching in UK secondary schools.The thesis is structured as follows:Chapter one: Introduction.It introduces the origin,purpose and significance of this study,the relevant theories of theme-based teaching,literature review,research ideas and research methods.Chapter two: Current situation of Mandarin Club Teaching in UK secondary schools.Through the introduction of the general situation of UK secondary school,the thesis comprehensively analyzes the Chinese courses,Chinese teachers,teaching methods as well as the problems faced at present.Chapter three: Overall analysis of business-theme-based Mandarin Club course.The first section provides a general introduction to Ilford County High Specialist Boys Grammar School,and Mandarin Club course.The second section is the analysis of learners.The investigation and analysis of students’ Chinese level,learning style,cognitive characteristics,learning motivation and other aspects led to the conclusion that secondary school students have different learning style and characteristics compared to adults when learning Business Chinese.Chapter four: Business-theme-based Mandarin course teaching design.This chapter is the core of the thesis.Primarily it introduces the teaching objectives and the overall teaching design.Subsequently,with two business topics-"knowing business partners" and "attending business banquet" as examples,it explains in detail the teaching plan,teaching implementation and learning evaluation designed andimplemented in Ilford County High Specialist Boys Grammar School.Chapter five: Evaluation of business-theme-based Mandarin Club course.The evaluation includes the teacher’s self-examination,learners’ questionnaire survey and interview research.The evaluation tests the course effect and influence.Lastly it further analyzes and summarizes the advantages and possible improvements for the business-theme-based course.Chapter six: Conclusion.It summarizes the main points of view,the innovation and shortcomings of this study. |
