For overseas primary and secondary school Chinese learners,due to the language environment and the limitation of the age,the requirement for teaching materials is more special,a good Chinese textbooks will have the effect of getting twice the result with half the labor.As a close neighbor of China,the Philippines has a long history of Chinese language teaching and a large number of Chinese schools.International Chinese textbooks published in the mainland and those in Taiwan are widely used in local primary and secondary schools.However,there are still some problems such as confusion in the use of textbooks and inapplicability of some textbooks.During my teaching in Xavier School in the Philippines,I found that although the school is a famous mainstream Chinese language school with a history of over 60 years and a complete teacher system,there are many problems in the use of textbooks.The same is true of Chenguang Middle School,which also has a long history.Therefore,this paper selects two Chinese(Mandarin)textbooks used by overseas primary and secondary school students were compared,they are the Easy Steps to Chinese(hereinafter referred to as EASY)was published by Beijing Language and Culture University used in the Xavier School where I teaches and Let`s learn Chinese(hereinafter referred to as " Learning Chinese")was published by the Taiwan Committee for Overseas Chinese used in Chenguang Middle School.First,a comparative study is conducted as a whole.Both of the two sets of textbooks have an international writing concept and a clear style.The EASY style changes with the increase of the number of textbooks,and the changes in different stages are large,while the Learning Chinese style is relatively fixed.Secondly,the paper compares and analyzes the similarities and differences between the two sets of teaching textbooks in the aspects of Phonetic,Texts,New words,Grammar,Exercises and Cultural.The content of EASY textbooks is higher than that of Learning Chinese in both quantity and difficulty,and the content of each book increases greatly.But The problem is that there are many meaningless single morphemes in the vocabulary,which may cause misunderstanding and increase the learning burden for students.The grammar distribution is not centralized and there is no English annotation.Inparticular,the content quantity and difficulty of Volumn 4 and 5 are relatively large.In the survey,both teachers and students also reflected that the content of volume 5 was too much and too difficult,and some students showed a decline in learning interest and even gave up Chinese.The content of Learning Chinese is relatively simple,but the problem is that the genre of the text is single and the vocabulary of the middle and late period is small.There are too many exercises in both textbooks.Actually,In the use of teaching materials,teachers and students of Chenguang Middle School are more satisfied with Learning Chinese than teachers and students of Xavier School.The inapplicability of teaching materials is bound to increase the work of teachers,teachers in both schools should choose the flexible use of teaching materials according to the actual situation of students,especially teachers in Xavier School.They should select the important and difficult content of teaching materials and summarize the grammar points of teaching materials...
