Research On Government Scale,Cadre Family Background And Marriage Matching Choice

The family is the smallest unit in the social organization structure,and the family marriage problem has an important impact on social welfare.The marriage of contemporary China is influenced by the traditional Chinese feudal marriage system and the western modern marriage concept.Parents and family background play an important role in the process of individual marriage matching.In addition,macro-social structural factors also affect individual marriage matching.This paper measures the role of government in economic society by government size,explores the difference of influence on marriage matching between cadre and non-cadre family background individuals and its mechanism.This paper establishes multiple econometric regression models based on CGSS2013 data and the results show that government size has a significant impact on the individual spouse’s career.For ordinary family individuals,the expansion of government size will increase the attraction of cadre occupation in the marriage market,making ordinary family individuals more inclined to find cadres to achieve marriage matching.Government size has an additional positive impact on cadre families.The influence of government size on the possibility of marriage with Cadres between individuals with cadre family background and non-cadre family background is significant different.This paper argues that the difference in influence is caused by the value and scale of political resource.With the expansion of the size of the government,the political resources and connection of cadre families will also expand,which will bring more ways and possibilities for them to achieve marriage matching with cadres.When government size increases,the bonus from the increase of the value of political capital will promote the marriage match between individuals and cadres.This paper also validates the mechanism from two perspectives,including sample’s subjective evaluation of the importance of political relations and family income.The results show that when government size expands,individual from cadre family regards political resource more important compared with non-cadre family children.Besides family income of individual from cadre family increases more than that of individuals with ordinary family background,which shows that the scale and value of political resources of cadre families increase with the expansion of government size.
