Popular music originated in the 19 th century when the American Industrial Revolution began,at that time a great number of agricultural people entered the cities,and the structure of urban citizens changed.These people also brought new cultural,the most representative of which is early popular music.Since then,European and American popular music has been introduced to Shanghai in the 1920 s with the expansion of the colony.At that time,Shanghai had already had the characteristics of a capitalist commercial city.The demand for popular music also began in the cultural life of the citizens.Under the circumstances,popular music created by the founder of the Chinese popular music,Li Jinhui,came into being.With the development of society,popular music is becoming more and more popular for its simple,easy-to-learn and fast-paced characteristics,and it is also impacting the high school student group.High school students are the object of middle school music education.Because they are in the special stage of adolescence,they are susceptible to external influences and lack self-discrimination ability.Therefore,how to educate high school students on popular music is a problem that teachers should consider.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is the status and analysis of the music appreciation course in Jinan No.9 High School.This section mainly introduces the design of student questionnaires,the statistical results and analysis of the questionnaires.It is considered that students are eager to learn popular music whereas current popular music textbook cannot meet their needs.The second part analyzes the possibility of popular music teaching.Firstly,it states the characteristics of popular music,then discusses the influence on teenagers from both positive and negative aspects,moreover put forward the problems that should be paid attention to in teaching according to the advantages and disadvantages of popular music.The third part is the practice of pop music teaching in Jinan No.9 middle school.Firstly,the curriculum arrangement of popular music teaching in Jinan No.9 high school is given.The next is the analysis of two teaching cases based on the curriculum arrangement.At last,some feasible suggestions are given according to practice for the implementation of popular music teaching in senior high school.This part provides three solutions.Mainly from the methods of popular music choosing;adopting appropriate ways to evaluation students’ performance;expanding extracurricular activities.The forth part is the conclusion.This article focuses on the current situation of popular music teaching in high school,giving some suggestions to better fit this class.
