Teaching is the primary responsibility of the university,and it is also the major job of the teacher.Since Humboldt proposed the concept of "combining teaching and research",after a series of changes in internal and external factors,the relationship between teaching and research at all levels has shown "from macro government policy,meso university organization management to micro teacher practice" "Scientific research over teaching".At present,in research universities,teachers' behaviors of “emphasizing scientific research and neglecting teaching” have long been a common phenomenon,but at the same time we must also see that some teachers still maintain outstanding teaching.The paper collectively call these teachers teaching excellence teachers.Then the question to be explored by this research institute is: What are the reasons for teaching excellence teachers to keep excellent teaching in a " research-oriented" institutional environment,and what are their practices to achieve teaching excellence? This expectation has some implications for the improvement of the nervous relationship between teachers' teaching and scientific research in current research universities.This research adopts a qualitative research method.Through interviews with outstanding teaching teachers in research universities in Hubei Province,the reasons and practices for maintaining excellent teaching are studied.First,this study sorts out and summarizes the current institutional environment of countries and universities,and analyzes how teachers will behave in this environment.Second,it discusses why teaching excellence teachers are willing to maintain teaching excellence,and in order to achieve teaching excellence,How do they do ? Finally,by summing up the experience of outstanding teachers in teaching,reflecting on the current relevant system,and making adjustment suggestions to the system.The research results show that:(1)The roots of "emphasis on scientific research but light teaching" of teachers in research universities are the top-down institutional orientation,and the institutional "scientific research orientation" shapes the teacher's behavior of "emphasis on scientific research and light teaching".(2)Reflective recognition of teacher status is an important reason for outstanding teachers to maintain excellent teaching,and the formation of reflective recognition requires the support of “reasons”.The “reasons” of interviewed teachers include:(1)The importance of teaching in the current era;(2)Impact of foreign experience;(3)Interested in teaching;(4)Research can be better promoted through teaching.(3)Appropriate teaching workload and consistency of course teaching and research directions are prerequisites for outstanding teachers to maintain high-quality teaching,and teaching responsibility is a basic condition for excellent teaching.It is precisely the sense of responsibility for teaching and students.Make them willing to work hard on teaching,so as to present excellent teaching.In order to better balance the teaching and scientific research work of teachers in research universities,this study puts forward the following suggestions:(1)reduce the teaching workload of teachers by expanding the teacher-student ratio;(2)scientifically and rationally allocate human resources to teachers 'curriculum teaching is related to their scientific research direction and forms a model of“ cultivating the new,exercising middle-aged,cherishing the elderly ”;(3)Gradually promote research-based teaching models;(4)reforming the teacher evaluation system,establishing a scientific,reasonable,and fair teaching workload evaluation mechanism and gradually establish an "combination of teaching and scientific research" evaluation system.
