In recent years, the media has been continuously exposing improperacademic behaviors of university teachers, which makes the stateeducation authorities at all levels, the academia itself as well as the publicdraw more and more concerns on this issue. Under such a realisticbackground, this paper concerns about the academic loyalty of universityteachers.From the perspective of academic loyalty rather than academicnorms or ethics, this paper carefully sorts out and integrates the existingdomestic and foreign researches, and combines the characteristics ofuniversity teachers to define the concept of academic loyalty. With thepremise of grasping the concept, it gives positive interpretationsaccording to the requirements of four dimensions, namely academicconsciousness, academic freedom, academic discipline and academicintrospection. Further combination with the specific behaviors ofcontemporary university teachers’ violating academic loyalty, from thenegative side, points out the harm they brought to university teachersthemselves, to students, to academia, and even to the state. And then, itillustrates the significance of academic loyalty in university teachers’academic work. By analyzing some specific cases, it deeply delves thecauses of academic disloyalty from both two aspects of university teachers themselves and the external environment.Through analyzing the importance of academic loyalty for universityteachers from both positive and negative sides, and the causes of thecurrent disloyalty phenomenon, this paper analyzes and proposes thecountermeasures of how to prevent the academic loyalty from thedisloyalty, from both internal and external aspects, i.e. self-generatedacademic disloyalty of university teachers and external security foruniversity teachers’academic loyalty respectively. Furthermore, it focuseson illustrating the key points of improvement of academic norms and“academic legislation”.On the occasion of universities’ non-administration reform, andfacing with the unsatisfactory as well as the eager expectations of thestate and the people to the academic loyalty of university teachers, thispaper researches on the training countermeasures of academic loyalty foruniversity teachers, hoping to provide feasible countermeasures or usefulinspirations for the purification of the academic environment in China.
