In the fierce social competition, more and more young men born in rural areas are staying in the cities to settle down and become families through education and employment. This male elite from countryside, also known as the “Phoenix man” on the Internet, with female youth in the city of birth, step into the palace of marriage through free love and form their own nuclear family. For various reasons, the mother of the "Phoenix man" moved to the city where his son lived. This article refers to the elderly women from rural ares who live in heterogeneous marriage and family of “husband rural wife city” as “accompanying mother-in-law”.With the increasing size of China’s elderly migrant population, under the limited social and public services,we need to give priority to migrant elders with more prominent cultural adaptation issues.Compared with other types of relocated elderly people, accompanying mother-in-law live together with urban daughter-in-law who represent the youth of the local community, and will intuitively feel their value orientation, lifestyle and behavior habits, which makes the relocated people in a disadvantage position.Accompanying mothers-in-law felt more pressured by urban culture adaptation. This study takes the accompanying mother-in-law of J Street in Guangzhou as the research object, and uses the “cultural adaptation process model” of New Zealand psychologist Colleen Ward as the theoretical basis. From the perspective of “ family thinking”,through interviews and observations, first understand the dynamic mechanism of accompanying mother-in-law’s formation, and then explain how the accompanying mother-in-law feel cultural differences between generations, regions and urban and rural ares.Through the collation, induction and summary of the data obtained, the problem of urban cultural adaptation of the accompanying mother-in-law of J Street is clarified.Based on this,an eight-section group work is designed and carried out to respond to the actual needs of service object. Finally,by evaluating the process and effectiveness of the entire group service, reflecting on this intervention strategy and summing up the experience.I hope that in thefuture,we can better use social work methods to relieve the pressure of the accompanying mother-in-law’s urban cultural adaptation. This makes them face the problem of integration in urban dislocation marriage family with a good attitude.
